| To Answer a few Questions ? Hi Everyone, Hope You all and your Yorkie cuties are doing great ! I am anewbie here and If you the post Hi from a newbie you will find me. I am not sure if I am doing this right but here is a question I got from a Person : sylvan Senior Yorkie Talker Join Date: Jun 2005 Posts: 94 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi and welcome! I hate to be the downer here but I am always concerned when I hear about a 7 week old pup removed from the litter. They really need to be together until they are at least 10 weeks for proper socialization/care. Is there a special reason Daisy was released to you so early? Sorry for raining on the parade... Anywho You are right I think Sylvan, Same thing I was thinking I think I should have done more reading before jumping the gun so to speak. But i tryed to read everything before I got My sweet Daisy but never did I read that she may be to Young !! As I have had a few problems that I think stem from this let me explain --I have had Daisy 3 Days now I found this site last night when I was looking for info as to why she is acting weird The first two nights about 11 at night she would vomit The poor baby would vomit more then she had in her.Lastnight was alot better and today She is doing great .I called the vet and she has a appointment for first pup check on Monday I really think the Breeder Didnt care and I should have seen it but I didnt I Love Daisy soooo much already and We also paid a pretty penny The breeder said He would be getting the akc papers in when all the pups are gone and will then send them to Me ? Is this right ? He seemed honest But really He didnt even explain things to Me about any special yorkie care etc like I thought He would( even though I read first)I still felt as if He could have takin more time with Us,I felt hurryed out the door!I did see her mommy and daddy and Mom got in with her and started feeding her,I should have seen that was My first sign right there.I was so hurryed that I did not ask My fault I know) Anyone with any comments or suggestions I would soo much appreciate it !! Thanks You all for listening and also Daisy is doing really good today she is eating baby food beef and lamb and Her hard kibble, lots of water,Also boiled chicken and rice is this good ? Thanks alot ,Tami Ps Daisy was 6 wks when I got her she just turned 7wks yesterday! |

| You did get Daisy way too young but you have her now so you just have to make the best of it. It sounds like she is eating fine. I would watch her for the vomiting and if it continues to take her to the vet. You might want to also give her nutrical since she is so little. Welcome again and good luck!

| At 7 weeks she may be young to be eating the hard kibble..there are some breeders on this website that will have great info for you but for the time being I beleive that your baby should be eating at least 4 times a day with kibble left out all day...maybe try softening up her kibble with some water making it an almsot oatmeal consistency...then as per your vet give the baby food. She needs to be checked out ASAP and shoudl not go out yet until all her shots. Was she weaned when she left the breeder?...I can just offer my support and hope all goes well, I got Maximus at a little over 10 weeks and I was still moistening his food ...oh also start witha quality dog food...Innova, Natural Choice, Solid Gold, Wellness etc..there is a whole thread in health and diet

| WOW! In my state it is illegal to sell, transfer, or trade (or give away) ANY puppy under 7 weeks of age. That was scarey that your puppy was throwing up! Good thing you have an appointment with the vet Monday! Make sure he gives her a complete puppy exam. Also, take a stoole sample with you and he can check for worms and/or parasites. As long as she is eating, drinking, and not lathargic, Monday should be safe enough. I'm going to tell you now, if you don't get papers WITH your puppy, there isn't going to be a darn thing you can do about it if he NEVER gives them to you. You can spend over $100 trying to get them, but if he didn't really register the litter (which you do BEFORE you sell them), from my experience you won't have much luck. I am no professional by far, but this is something I went through with my first Yorkie. Though there certainly are times a person does get the papers later such as if there were some error in the paper work to begin with or the person sent them out late. It just sounds fishy to me that he said he isn't sending the papers out till they are all sold. Also, the whole process sounded all wrong to me. Anyway, like the post mentions above, put water in the hard puppy food you are feeding with now and also as mentioned above, you won't want to skimp and buy a cheap brand....they eat so very little a small bag goes a looooong way! Did you check to see if your pup has teeth? Last edited by Julz; 07-08-2005 at 09:56 AM. |

| It is sad to see them leave mamma so early but as Chachi said, you have her now and you will do the best for her. i agree also that a little nutrical a couple of times a day is good for them. My breeder also fed her pups a little cottage cheese daily to help with their digestive tract. Make sure she is hydrated, even if you have to feed the water with a syringe. If you feel comfortable with it, do you mind telling us where you got puppy? maybe it will save another member from needless worry. Good Luck with Daisy and let us know how her appt. goes |

| I got Sami at just about 7 weeks, and he adjusted just fine, maybe because I had tilly here as well, I do understand alot of different opinions on when to adopt puppys or kittens, But all through my childhood (57 now) my parents, myself have always brought home one or the other because I guess back then the standard normal time of separation was 6 weeks old, as long as they were weaned! even if they weren't I have weaned some of my pets myself, it really isn't a big deal to me they all survived lived a happy and well loved life. I don't believe throwing up constitutes being sick because of its age I think it is a sensitive stomach adjusting to the introduction of new nourishment, simular to an infant once removed from the breast and or bottle formula introducing the child to whole milk might cause the child to throwup, some children even have to be put on soy, goat and other forms of milk. and welcome to YT |

| I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience with your breeder, but you will have all the help we can muster. He should have definitely registered the litter before he sold pups. I don't release registration papers until I get a copy of spay/neuter cert from owners at 6 months...but I have them here. At this point that doesn't really matter unless you were planning to enter akc events, the paper is just paper if you just wanted a pet. It would be helpful to know what the pedigree is for health issues, but it doesn't sound like you would have got that info anyway...please make sure you have her spayed at 6 months to prevent future problems. accidental breedings do occur as you'll see if you check some other threads...also, it would be great if you can post the breeders info to keep others from having a poor experience with a new pup. Maybe we can educate him a bit... I will be happy to send you all the care info sheets I send home with new pup owners if you would like to e-mail me at sylvanyorkies@entermail.net. or you can pm me here. You are already getting lots of advice here, I also recommend free feeding dry kibble, supplemented with wet 3x day and get to the vet asap. Best wishes to you and Daisy Stacy |
