Yeah, it just doesnt make sense to me... I mean in a way, I understand it... BUT... In another way, its me being a Mommy of a Fur Baby... And I absolutely love her, and I think there should just be more places that allow your dog... I'm not saying every place should be, there should just be more places, and dont treat my dog like its a dirty mongrel!!!

You would be just as irritated with a barking dog as you would be a crying child!

People talk so much about how parents are irresponsible for kids these day's but the same can be said about pet owners too! Just imagine them in a store letting their animal run around!

True...there are both irresponsible parents and pet owners.

walmart and target sell food, that is why we're not allowed with tthe babies

oopsmyhalofello 01-15-2008 08:24 PM

I wish that they were welcomed more places as well. I wouldn't go so far as comparing it to children and their manners. There are just as many adults that are dirty, unsanitary and nasty as "their" children. *Incidently the general population of the walmart consumers near my home is nasty, dirty people so I wouldn't want to submit my girls to that :D

I have 5 children and I make sure they are clean, well dressed and well behaved at all times, especially when we are away from home... same as I do with my yorkies.

The strangest place I have been told my dogs cannot go? Well, tell me if this makes sense. Several years the san Diego teddy bear show has been held at the Scottish Rite Center. As long as I have been doing this show, there have been bear artists who have brought thier toy dogs and had them in a crate underneath thier covered tables. I have seen customers with thier furbabiies in strollers and carriers. NEVER has there been an incident that endangered or even bothered anyone else. Normally you never even knew they were there. All of a sudden they are know telling us that we cannot bring our pet in even if it is in a crate under the table. The reason? because they have a caterer there one morning..... in a totally different room no less. They are concerned that hair would get in the food. HUH????!!!! Doesn't seem to bother them that we have a ROOM FULL of MOHAIR Bears! DUH!! As we all get out our slicker brushes and groom the bears before the customers come in....

MommysBabyRoxy 01-15-2008 08:36 PM

Yes it is ridiculous!!! In this world there is always going to be hair, germs, and many things flying around... We can't always be scared... I lose much more hair than my dog, and I see many ppl that are stinky and do gross things...
My dog is not stinky, doesnt do gross things, and just sits in her closed in stroller the whole time... She should be able to go in... like I said, if I was Paris Hilton they wouldnt care if I brought my dog in.

I wonder how French restaurants deal with unruly pooches, since in France dogs are allowed everywhere. Europeans don't seem to be freaked out by the potential of dog hair like many Americans. Since dogs are welcome pretty much everywhere, they must have a way of dealing with dogs that are dirty, etc. I can't wait to take Kiwi to Paris and go shopping and eating together!

I was just thinking this right before I read your post. And about children these days, I think there is too much psycho-babble out there and nobody knows what to do anymore. Now, I'm not saying that spanking and abusive yelling are okay, but I think we are all too afraid of "traumatizing" our children or we're too afraid to discipline in public. As a result, the kids are literally running wild!

MommysBabyRoxy 01-15-2008 11:03 PM

Thats what I mean, I hate to say it but my Yorkie is much better behaved and cleaner than my best friends children, and her house is neater too... Dogs arent as "dirty" as ppl think... Ppl, EVEN CLEAN ppl, many times are dirtier than a well kept dog. I even think Roxy is cleaner than me some times.... *we get showers together, she sits on a little shower chair in back of the shower* And yes, other countries all allow doggies in places, this is why its so bothersome to me that I cant do it here... I should just move to France! lol. or California... Most places in California are very animal friendly...

I totally agree, they should be allowed, if its somewhere with food, and they are in an enclosed stroller, I dont see what the big deal is. The problem is it only takes one person, who's dog is not so clean or not so mannerly to ruin it for everyone else. I once went to a oak wood furniture store, (floors were cement mind you), and they wouldnt let me bring Suki, and I was carrying her, it wasnt like she was walking around. I got so angry, I walked out and went to another store, there was no way I was going to leave her in the car and I was only going in to check the price on some unfinished barstools, and leave. Course for me my dogs are like my kids.

this is very true. there are rules for a reason and a line has to be drawn somewhere. if we sit in a restaurant with our little dogs and the owner of a lab sees it and wants in too... whos to decide then what dog is clean enough, doesnt shed, isnt loud and is acceptable to come in. the 17 year old host at the door that is making $8/hr? unfortunately a lot of people dont love dogs as much as we love our babies. as much as i wish i could walk into starbucks with my pooch, i understand that if everyone brought in their dogs, there would be no room left for the people buying the product! lol.

maybe you could try getting a cover for the stroller so they THINK its a skin baby in there! ;)

EXACTLY. And if they allowed our dogs in (even though they're clean & super cute and cuddly :), and they didn't allow someone else's dog in - you're talking law suit for discrimination. Honestly, I think that's what it boils down to. I agree, it's not exactly fair, but I think these corporations have to set a standard to cover their hineys from greedy opportunists.

That was one of the things I loved about living in Europe. HOWEVER, Europeans are a lot more responsible with their pet ownership than most Americans are. In my 6 years living there, I never once encountered a dog that was not very well mannered. The dogs you'd see in restaurants, cafes and shops were very well mannered & trained to listen to their owner. Animal ownership is a very big deal in most of Europe.

I believe I should be able to take Roxy everywhere I want... If I was Paris Hilton and I came into a store or restaurant with my dog, they wouldnt think twice to tell me I couldnt bring my dog in...
Roxy is clean... VERY CLEAN!!! I go to so many restaurants and I get sick when I see kids picking their noses, snots all over their face, screaming, crying.... touching the food in stores... BLAAAAAAAH!!!
Roxy stays in her pink stroller and is completely covered and they complain while Jason is over in the vegetables putting his dirty little hands all over my future onions.
To me, this is unfair!!!!
I am not saying I hate little kids, cause I DONT! My best friend gets mad at me but its like she just doenst understand because she has 2 kids, who arent always the cleanest in the world...
Roxy is SOOO clean!!! She smells better than most children and has very good manners... Do I think everybody should be able to bring their dogs in?? No, not if theyre not well behaved or able to be kept... But I think there should be more places willing to cater to pet owners... We love our dogs like most ppl love their children... and in some cases even more.
Does anybody understand what I mean? Or am I crazy like my best friend thinks???
P.S. She's a lot better dressed than a lot of kids too... lol.
Roxy in her pink stroller when its opened in front... (she was only 7 months in this pic)

I agree with you on the Paris Hilton thing...she would be treated differently from us...BUT I do not think that Roxie (or my Mika), belong in a restaurant. I agree with you about some kids. I watched two parent oblivious to the fact that their brat was swinging the tiffany light fixture back and forth and squealing loudly at each swing. The sound of the brats voice revberated througout the entire restaurant, and I kept watching to see if the parents would come out of their coma and say ANTYHING. THe waiter tried to steady the light fixture everytime he went to the table, but as soon as he would walk away, the comotose parents let the light swinging and squealing begin anew.

If you type in "dog friendly" and your city in google, you will find various restuarants in your area that will allow dogs (this is usually in the OUTDOOR patio area however). I would take Roxie, and patronize them and let them know verbally how much I appreciate them.

Now let's take the Costco and Sam's for example. This is one place that I elt Mika could be taken in discreetly, but then I remembered there is food in there, and would other people actually appreciate buying food that I nad my dog around?? NO, you must consider the non-dog people as you move through this world.

I have taken her into just about every store in the "upper class" mall in Atlanta. She even sat in my lap while I got one of the "makeovers" at the M.A.C. counter.

But OMG Wal-Mart and Target both threw a FIT! LOL!

Funny you mention this, as we noticed that at the upper scale places, our dogs are welcome and even ooohed and aaahed over:confused: Yet when I try and take them to a SOCCER FIELD for my dd's game, in their STROLLER, I get told to leave the field:mad: It's not like I'm going to let them loose to viciously attack the kids:rolleyes: or that they're gonna poo on the field (and even if they did, I carry poop bags everywhere I go).

It's just that if they started making exceptions for our babies, then they'd have to do that for everyone and I understand that.
