| Ruby is eating now Sorry to let you all wonder what was going on. So much hussling to do for Christmas, and then a trip to Georgia to see our daughter and her Airforce hubby. After many tries, we found that Ruby likes Royal Canin. She is not on the formula for puppies 9 weeks to 10 months. What I like about it is that it does not smell like traditional dog food, and I like how the food is shaped in small thin triangles. This makes it easier for a puppy to bit and chew. My next question is how do I discourage her from biting me. I've tried the Dog Whisper tactic of turning her on her back and holding her while saying, "No Bit" in a stern voice. But she refuses to make eye contact and when I let her go she tries again to bite me. Again thanks for all of yours help. |

| My new puppy is 8wks old and we did the dry + water and warm it. Let it be soupy and then add mighty dog canned with the wet mixture. My puppy gets so excited when I'm holding her I have to hand feed her by the spoon for at least 2 bites then take her bowl to the floor so she can eat. She was a runt and she has really gained weight. I have also a bowl of dry and a bowl of water for her at all times. Then she gets feed in the evening again fresh mixture of the same. She is a piggy when it comes to eating. I hope your Ruby gets on track.

| Keep plenty of things for her to chew on..maybe try a little kong with the peanut butter or cheese filling in it, or what mine like are the dental chews I get from the vet..I also give mine premium rawhides from drsfostersmith, but when they get down so far, I throw them out..when she bites you, yell ouch, they say they realize they're hurting you..good luck |

| Hi Linda. Welcome to Yorkie Talk. As you can see there are so many good people here ready and willing to help with your concerns about little Ruby. I'm so glad she is doing better with her eating. As for the biting, she is very young so maybe she just needs a little more time to learn that biting is a No No. Can't wait to see pictures of her. Congratulations on you wedding anniversary.

| Hi Linda and welcome to YT. Congratulations on your new fur-baby, but boy, 7 weeks...ouch. Hope she has no complications down the road. As for the biting, all puppies bite, it's what they do best, and how they learn to defend themselves. It's just instinct. First off do NOT play with the puppy with your hand. They think this is the thing to bite and play with if you do. I have a puppy myself that wants to bite everything that moves. If they bite down on your hand, DO NOT take your hand away, or they win! It gives them power and is putting them in the alpha position, which you do not want. YOU are the alpha. When they bite down, don't move, but just make a loud sound such as NO or ACK. I use the ACK and it works every time. Sooner or later they stop biting the hand, but may go after the feet or pant legs. Good luck with your little baby. Hope to meet and see pictures of Ruby soon. |

| Hi! and a very warm welcome to you and Ruby! The name Ruby was my first choice for a while for my baby girl then i settled on the name Pixie! Her registered name is 'Chevawn Such A Diamond' I wanted Diamond in the name because my grandparents were celebrating their Diamond wedding anniversary in october last year! 7 weeks is very young to have left the mother, My Pixie was 14 weeks and only 1lbs 8oz when we brought her home with us, but with special care and attention from you, she should do just fine and don't forget, you have a lifeline here on YT 24hrs a day 7 days a week if you are ever worried about anything! Best wishes.
