| New to Yorkie Talk Hello, my name is Linda. Last Sunday I bought my first Yorkie. Ruby, is a little female. She is 7 wks old. We named her Ruby, to commemerate our 40th Wedding Anniversary which is Dec 16th We are having a problem getting Ruby to eat. The breeder had her on Eukanuma puppy petite. Soaked in water. She will not eat it. Our Vet recommended cottage cheese and yogurt, because her stools are real runny. We're having a hard time getting her to eat that too. Does anyone have any suggestions? We're kinda off to a rough start. She's so adorable!! Linda |

| She is very young to be away from her mother. Most breeders prefer to wait until they are 12 weeks old. How much does she weigh? Has she been tested for coccidia and giardia? Both will cause runny stool and could potentially be dangerous. Did the breeder give you any type of health guarantee when you purchased the pup? I hope she will be okay...they are delicate little babies sometimes.

| Congratulations on Ruby. I agree with everyone else that she was too young to be taken from her mommy. Maybe the runny stools are a result of the diet change. Be very careful of her blood sugar dropping too. How much does she weigh? Do you have pictures? We would love to see little Ruby...(I love the name btw) |

| I am by no means an expert, I'm a new momma too but my reagan is on the can puppy food from pro plan in chicken & rice that you can get from petsmart- I also put a few kibbles of the pro plan (puppy) dry food in there in another bowl just to see if she's ready for it & so far she's sticking w/the wet food & occasionaly touches the dry but she really does like the wet food I also change it out three times a day. I hope this helps. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Cali was like that when I got her. I had to feed her canned food to gether to finally eat. Try some of the premium brands, Wellness, Solid Gold and try and entice her with that. Welcome and congratulations!!!

| I got Meka at 9 wks.... My breeder also had her on Eukanueba + water. She started acting funny w/ eating for a few days and we stopped adding water to the kibble... and she seemed to like it that way. However, after being a member here on YT, I've learned that Eukanueba isnt very good food and it had caused Meka to itch like crazy. Switching to a different brand might be better for your furbaby. Something w/o corn, and other fillers... I now use Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul and Meka is so happy. Hope this helps and Welcome to the YT Cant wait to see pics

| First off, welcome to YT!!! Second, congrats on lil Ruby! To help you out with her not eating, have you tried feeding her by hand? Sometimes that will help get them to eat a little. Hope she relaxes soon and settles into her new wonderful home!

| Congratulations on your new baby. She is really young and may need her food very finely chopped up. I'd add some moisture to it to entice her to eat. They usually all like chicken and rice, so give that a try.

Yes, as others have stated 7 weeks is way too young. Mine are normally still nursing at that age. You can try canned puppy formula heated to room temp and try canned food as well. I'd also suggest having nutrical on hand for her. You can try baby food as well. Even baby cereal too. Good luck and feel free to contact me with any questions. Welcome again!!!! | |

| Welcome to YT. Can't wait to see pics of Ruby. She is so young to be away from her mommy. hopefully you all will adjust. I thought you might like to know about this food analysis website - as others have mentioned, knowing about a quality food is so important (fyi a 6 star food here is probably too much for a yorkie - but 4 & 5 stars would be good) http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_f...ndex.php/cat/1
