I can't even get close to my little guys toenails - much less his eyes!! I've tried to massage his little nails while he is in the deepest sleep, and it just ain't happenin'!! Clippers - they can sit beside him and he sniffs them but put them in motion and it's a whole 'nother story!!! Even from a deadass sleep!! He's mellow when I massage his face so I bought the little round edged baby scissors, and he's comfortable around them and loves to play with them while they are in my hand but the minute I try to use them the squirm sets in!! LOL My other dogs were manageable, even when they were small, but this little booger is so willfull!! I'm wondering if a groomer will be able to do any better!! Yorkie Rose - what do you use to train it away from the eyes. I might be able to slip something in on my fingers while he's sleeping (key word is MIGHT!!) but am afraid to use anything so close to the eyes. What do you recommend???? What's a girl to do....

I posted to see if anyone had ever heard of this and no one had, so I cant tell you how to do it, but you may want to check with a groomer or two in your area to see if they pluck the hair there.

| I keep my Yorkie's and Poodle's clipped--it seems to help reduce the tearing. |

| DUDE....the funniest thing you guys just caused me to do. I read this thread earlier today, and got bold with my kitchen scissors.... Yes, I trimmed a little around Sully's eyes and though the cut has served its' purpose, it has proven to be a "botch job" by yours truly. As much as I want to pretend, I am neither a barber for my husband nor a groomer for my dog. All I do when I try, is leave "I wuz heer" buzz jobs on either of them, proving the exact extent to which I really really suck with a pair of scissors. LOL!!!!

| I'm letting Lexi's grow out, it seems to be easier to take care of once it is grown. I use a brow comb to comb it and it now lays pretty flat...

| Donating YT 14K Club Member | I would use gel to slick it up and keep it out of their eyes, but I would let it grow. Once you start cutting it, you will always have to cut it. It just takes a little time and patience but the outcome will be well worth the wait!

Also, I'm familiar with the first picture you posted above (actually bought one for my husband that we could take over-again you're saving me money here!) But what is the item in your second picture. Is it also a trimmer?

1st pic is a Wahl 1" head trimmer that I use for the ears...sanitary cutting..(butt) AND the bottom of their feet - sizzors on the bottom of feet works easy too. it's pretty easy to groom their feet - stand them and bend their foot AWAY from their face and it seems to be easier if they can't see what your doing the 2nd picture is a little 1/4 head trimmer - is GREAT for under eyes - I don't use it anywhere else - it takes just enough under the eyes to remove the strays and tearstains - I could live without this trimmer - 3rd pic is the Personal Trimmer - I love it. It's quiet and you can't really make a chunking mistake cause it trims a little at a time - FOR anyone who is unsteady - it's perfect. I just gently trim stray hairs so their whole eye is visible - I tried to let it grow but the girls are outside alot and hair was always sticking into their eyes so I trim. Many people don't but I prefer the look and they can see better. I hope this helps someone - I'm no expert but it sure is nice not taking them to the groomer every six weeks cause they DON'T like going and I don't like leaving them - and it saves money cause a groomer basically will do minor things sometimes - and charge full price | |
