| Grooming Question (Hair Near Eyes) I was just wondering what are you supposed to do with the hair in the corner of a Yorkie's eye? I assume if I cut it, when it grows back it will poke the eye, and if I just let it grow out, it will continue to poke Riley's eye until it is really long. It isn't very long right now, but it seems to poke Riley's eye and it looks like he can't see very well. So what do I do? |

| I cut it all while Coco is sleeping because those hairs cause her to tear up a lot. She's is a deep sleeper so she doesn't notice or even flinch so I don't worry about poking her.

| I am just worried because if I cut it, I might hurt Riley and when the hair starts to grow back, it will poke him in the eyes and cause him to tear. If I let it continue to grow out, it will continue to poke him in the eyes until it is longer. Either way he tears up and I can't decide what to do! |

| grooming Are you the one cutting the hair? The solution is to keep it cut short and you can do that every week weeks. You can let it grow..use some mousse or gel to train it to lay down..it will take awhile to grow out from that length to where it lays flat. Best wishes |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I do both my girls after trying to let it grow and lay flat - Chanels did - but Cheri's never fell flat so they both get it cut by ME. I use the PErsonal Trimmer in the first pic - it's so quiet it doesn't freak them and both my girls sit still for this - they aren't so good with the noisier trimmers - They cost about 10 bucks at Sallys Beauty Supply or similar stores - For UNDER their eyes - I use the 2nd pic - Both these are tools I can't live without for grooming - |

| I trimmed Muffin's for 14 years. I always wanted to see her pretty eyes. And I've been trimming Kacee's since I've had her. I just love to see their eyes. They all have such pretty eyes, I think... |

| I love the curved scissors that they used to sell to trim hooman babies nails. Remember? If anyone says they are too young or scissors haven't been made for years, you gonna get smacked into the middle of next week..LOL They are abour 3 1/2 inches long; slightly curved and are rounded on the tips. I think they allow more control. I keep them trimmed really short. Lordy, I am writing another book--BUT, if your baby's face is always wet from tearing, your baby could have a problem with their naso-lacrimal ducts being clogged or not formed properly. Have your vet use the dye that they use to check for corneal abrasions. They then wipe and rinse the eye and see if ANY ORANGE shows under the blue light (no, not the blue light special at K-mart) coming out of the nostrils. If no orange the ducts are not draining the tears from the eyes.I have each dog's ducts flushed with their first dental as a routine. The End. |
