| Hi there Hi I would like to introduce myself to all here at this forum. I have been a member reading posts getting advice but this is my first post. I have two yorkies. One is 9 weeks his name is Jack and a 5 month old female named Mandy. I fell in love with Jack and i felt that I needed another one so I got Mandy. Mandy is a 3 pound yorkie and Jack has already bypassed her weight by a pound. I am finding it to be a bit difficult raising two together because of their developmental stages at the moment. The potty training is a little frustrating and I was wondering if anyone has had great success in it and can offer some advice as to how to go from having them in a pen in the kitchen with a crate. To getting them to alert me somehow because they cannot go to the door at this time i have been taking them out every hour and by the way the crate has been dry for the past 3 nights. I guess what I am asking is how do you get them to tell you without going to the front door because they do not have free reign at this time?? At what age can I expect them to still have accidents if I am consistent with them at anticipating their need to go potty?? Thanks, vms 1177 |

| Actually VMS you are doing a great job. Your little ones are still young and they are either a baby or a toddler. Just keep up what you are doing, and then out of the blue, they will alert you. I trained Maggie to ring a bell that hangs on our doorknob. That really helps alot. She has free reign of the kitchen and den. The rest of the house I keep either closed off, or gated.

| I crate trained mine and went from crate to potty outside. The big issue I had was when Lacey came, she's was such a small puppy she needed food and water 24/7. So the older one of course wants to eat too. It's easier sometimes to feed them out of their bowl by hand so I can regulate what it going in. You are doing it right, just start becoming aware of the needs of each one. For example, Chloe is now old enough to potty in the morning, around noon and after dinner. Lacey is small at 3 lbs and if she eats, you better get her outside fast, she's going to potty right away. I tried the bell on the door but that did not work. I just follow a routine of first thing in the am, after eating, playing or nap and after dinner, then one final at bedtime, then into their crates for night night. It took a good 6 months and I still have accidents when it is raining, they just hate to go outside then. Some people say it takes a year for a small toy breed, it just depends. I also realized when Chloe is unhappy, she would sometimes potty on purpose, I swear she did. So, I decided it was ok for them to know when I am unhappy with them, so I used a stern voice of No, potty outside. When I started doing this, both of them suddently "got it". |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk! I hope you like it here! I'm sorry, but I don't really have any advice for you because I litter-trained my furbabies. Good luck with Jack and Mandy! |

| Welcome to YT! I am still trying to train Jeremiah to potty in the right places. He was paper train by his breeder and we are trying to get him to go outside. And yes it is very frustrating.

| Welcome to YorkieTalk!! I have 2 yorkies, Missy is 11mo and Max is 9mo, I brought Max home after having Missy a few months and she was fully potty trained, I had to start all over with him. It wasnt too bad, I think it helped him learn by watching her. It sounds like you are doing great so far, keep it up and they will get it. It could take a few months.

| Thank you all or the quick and thoughtful responses!!! Hi all The more i read the more I realize that it takes time and determination to house break these little ones. If it was up to me I would litter box train them but I dont think my hubby would go for that one because we have two kitties that do that already and he would not be happy with that. Especially because they are all my pets. He loves them too dont get me wrong. Yea I think I am just a bit overwelmed because I brought two home at once or shall i say in a matter of 1 week apart.Hey any of you raised two at once and what was your experience???? I have read that they sometimes they bond better to each other rather then you or that one bonds well and the other not. Oh also is it really true that its double the trouble or nice that they have each other when I am not home ???? Sorry so many questions now that I am talking I cant shut up. Thanks VMS Last edited by vms1177; 07-06-2005 at 04:38 AM. |

| Rex has reign of our kitchen/living room (1 verrrryyyy big room) and there are two doors that we close once we go in or out. when nobody is in the kitchen/living room with him he goes into our backyard for a bit. he loves it there. at night he goes into his crate and sleeps through the night. Rex is 6 months now and he had the crate since he was about 3 months. for the first week he had accidents but that was it. i do not take him out at night and now he learned to hold it in for about 8-9 hours. he gets 3-4 walks a day and he is in the yard for a few hours a day. with 2-3 accidents a weeks i am proud of him! he wont peepee in the crate even though he hates it! |

| so i guess for me...time was the key. ~~~also an update for those of you who knew Rex liked to bites, i guess my baby is maturing because ON HIS OWN he is biting less and less. in the past we have used bitter apple, bitter end, bitter yuck and whatever we could find and Rex loved it. it was a new taste for him when he tasted it he would bak off the wag his tail and come back for more. so again for me...time was the key |
