| All my dogs learn 'manners' as I call it. If they are good, they get 'last bites', I will save a small morsel of whatever they can have or put something on my plate that they can have. If they aren't good, they don't get bites. I've had Lida a little over 2 weeks and she has already learned her manners. They will usually lay down and wait for that last bite, if they protest or try to get in my plate or lap, they have lost their last bite. It never takes long, they can be pretty smart when it comes to food. All I have to say is 'mind your manners' and they will assume the position and wait! Windy and Lida Rose |

| Coco isn't allowed ANY table food, human food or anything of the sort. She occasionally sits and stares (even though she has her own food). She knows she will NEVER get anything. I usually give her one of her little bones or toys to chew on. The only human food she gets is fruit once or twice a week. That's when she goes nuts and even then I make her sit, like sam does to Maximus. I make her learn to be patient for a couple of minutes and then I give it to her. I agree with Yorkieagility, you just don't give in to a tantrum throwing child. I refuse to make Coco annoying to me and to others. Chances are something that you think is cute now, will probably be the most annoying later. I would say, JUST IGNORE HER. Let her rant and rave, she will get the picture of who's boss.

| What I do is cage her when we are eating or cooking and she starts begging.

| No she doesn't have to suffer, it will just take a few days of ignoring her whinning and she will be fine. You can undo what you've already done. You just have to be strong enough to put up with the whimpering. You don't have to cage (because I think that will just frustrate her more, but just keep saying NO! if she begs or comes near your food. Make sure she has plenty of toys and treats. DON'T GIVE UP!

I give Syd fruits and veggies each day but it is in her bowl and never from my plate or when I am eating. That way she doesn't associate it with my food. So far that has worked. ps. Rachealfraim: I love your new avitar and that picture of Kodah running is the cutest thing I've seen all day! | |

| I have to admit I spoiled my baby a bit too much after his accident. He wasnt eatting much so I would seperated a very tiny protion of ground beef, chicken or steak. He was 2.9 lbs before the accident and after he lost 6 oz. That may not sound like alot but to see him you can see the difference. His ribbs and hip bones were showing. It broke my heart to see him so I started giving him people food. I took him to the vet for a post op and he is now a whopping 3 lbs. He's tiny body has meat on it now! Now when I am preparing dinner he's right there just watching me. He trys so hard to get my attention. He'll start with a little whimper. And if I don't pay attention then he'll bark. And if that does't work, he'll come up to me and put his paws on my feet and gives me a few licks. Now how can you say no to that??? So what I started doing this week is I'll put him in the other room with my husband and close the baby gates. And when dinner is ready, we put him in his crate with a doggy treat while we eat. He cried the first few times, but yesterday he realized that we were not going to give in, well see how it goes today. It takes time but if you lay down the law your baby will know what they can and can not do and get away with.

| We used to eat in the living room in front of the TV but had to stop because Gracie and Sampson were in our faces, on the plates grabbing our dinner. Now we eat in the kitchen at the table and we COMPLETELY ignore both of them during dinner. It took a couple of weeks, but they now just take a nap under the kitchen table while we eat. We did not acknowledge their presence in ANY way if they begged, jumped up, cried, pawed... They both do hang around the kitchen when I cook, but they usually just sit their quietly hoping I will drop something.

| It isn't good for your dog either. I use Cheerios, a little slice apple and green beans (1 small, cut) as treats. If Chloe or Lacey begs I never give it to them at that time. I bend down, point my finger at their nose, tell them no, they cannot beg or bark for food and I reward them by putting a small treat in their bowl when they obey. If they don't obey, they don't get a treat. If a bad habit is present it may take a few days but trust me, they get it. That won't keep the bright eyed little "I'm so sad" look off their faces nor does it keep Lacey from being closer to me than glue but they definitely know what is their treat. For example, to get a few pieces of sliced apply, they fetch their ball, green beans for not barking, Cheerios are mainly for training. |

| Don't cave in and stop giving your baby people food!!! It might be hard at first, but eventually your baby will give up. Stomper has NEVER begged for people food since he has never had any! I plan to keep it that way...unless one of my family members decides to disobey my doggy rules!
