It isn't good for your dog either. I use Cheerios, a little slice apple and green beans (1 small, cut) as treats. If Chloe or Lacey begs I never give it to them at that time. I bend down, point my finger at their nose, tell them no, they cannot beg or bark for food and I reward them by putting a small treat in their bowl when they obey. If they don't obey, they don't get a treat. If a bad habit is present it may take a few days but trust me, they get it. That won't keep the bright eyed little "I'm so sad" look off their faces nor does it keep Lacey from being closer to me than glue but they definitely know what is their treat. For example, to get a few pieces of sliced apply, they fetch their ball, green beans for not barking, Cheerios are mainly for training.
