| night time I was wondering where the best place to let my yorkie sleep at night. More specifically I was wondering if it was the best thing to put a two year old in a cage every night to sleep. Any advice would help. Thanks, Jack2760 |

| I'm not a fan of the crate, although many people swear by it. We've been letting Sarge sleep in bed with us, but you could get him a dog bed and put it on your bedroom floor. They like to be near us when we're sleeping ya know...protective instict.

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Izzy loves both bed and her crate - mostly she sleeps with us on the weekends or days off from work and the other times she likes to sleep in her crate.

| My guy sleeps in his crate every night. Believe me, it is NOT a bad thing to crate a dog. If you are thinking it's inhumane, that is just way off. The only concern I would have is what has your dog been sleeping in for the last 2 years?? If he/she is used to sleeping in the bed, then it would be a hard transition. It is NOT a negative thing to put a dog in a crate, it's that natural "cave" instinct that dogs have. I also think it's fine for the dog to sleep w/ their owners if they chose that, I just want to point out to OP that it is NOT a punishment for them to sleep in a crate. |

| Tink slept in her crate which I put on my bed until she was potty trained. Now she sleeps on my bed or sometimes in her bed that replaced her crate on my bed. |

| If you've had her for the two years the best place would probably be where she's already used to. Previously I let Raja "sleep" in bed but after about 20 minutes he would jump off and sleep under the bed. Now his lil sis is here so he's sleeping in a crate with her. He seems to prefer the floor & she's too small for the bed just yet.

| Archie (he'll be 2 in January) sleeps in his crate very happily. When he gets up for his first morning pee, I put him in the bed with me for a couple of hours until I get up. He enjoys both.

| LOL, This is what my concern was... We've had accidents in bed, poopies and everything. I got a good mattress cover and wash the sheet when it happens. We have a big bed and he always went to the edge in the furthest possible corner. Now after realizing this was his bed too, he stoped having accidents. He does still wake us up in the middle of the night to go out though.

| I usually have Paddy sleep in his crate right next to my bed. If I leave him roaming around my room when I go to bed he usually winds up in his crate so I think he really does like it in there. To my husbands dismay I'm not really a fan of Paddy sleeping on the bed because first off he's so small and my bed is so high that I'm afraid I'll kick him off and I actually have almost smushed him and woken both of us up in the middle of the night. Secondly I've read and heard from trainers that the pack leaders usually sleep seperately from the followers so, keeping them off the bed is another way to set yourself as their leader. We compromise though, most days he's in his crate with the door open and then one or two nights a week he comes in the bed. One thing that is weird is that he has never ever peed on the bed but if he stays in his crate with the door open he sometimes does go on his pee pad during the night.
