| New Here and Need Encouragement!!! This is my first time posting. I really wish it could be more of an upbeat post, but my 14 week old Yorkie puppy is making me crazy. There are sooooooooo many issues where her potty training is concerned. I am just getting down in the dumps. I have Multiple Sclerosis and it is hard for me to take her out every 15 minutes. I have a 9 year old Yorkie, too, and she is being an angel about all of this. I have a playpen in the kitchen. She is constantly messing in there. I think her food needs to be changed, also. Her poops are not formed lately and it is horrible. I am learning from reading this forum. I have Mia on Royal Canine and I think it is not agreeing with her. I am constantly washing the floor from the mess. I just don't know where to turn right now. Mia won't use a wee wee pad either. If I put one in the playpen she just tears it up. But, then when she is sweet, she is sooooooooo sweet. Just need some words of encouragement. Thanks for any and all help. Potty training is exhausting me. |

| Sorry you are having such a hard time! Wish I could help. If you do a search you will see this has been discussed many times here recently. Some good advice was given there.

| Royal Canin didn't agree with one of my pups, so I switched to Innova and have had no trouble! Good luck with the training! Maybe if you made sure that she was tired out before you put her in her playpen, she might be less likely to tear up the pee pad....just a thought.

| I think you need to change her from Royal Canin try other food like Canidea, honest kitchen, or a better food than Royal Canin, also a 14 week old pup have a lot of energy maybe someone can take her for a walk for you, also you may want to use clothes pads so she can't tear up, for my girls I cover the play pen with wee pads then I remove them one by one untill you leave one or two there for her to use, hope this help a little |

| I'm so sorry you're having a hard time. I know it must be hard to battle MS plus potty-training a new baby. I know there's a spray you can buy that has some pH solution in it that will make them WANT to pee on the pad. Ask about it next time you're at petsmart. There's also an additional spray that will neutralize the smell of accidents so they dont return to that spot again to potty. And if i were you, though its maybe not VERY practical, I'd duct tape the pad down so theres no edges exposed for her to pick up and get her teeth on. Hope this helps!

| At 14 weeks, she's just a baby and really can't be expected to be potty trained. Maybe someone can help you but this will probably be like this for several more months. Like a human baby, their bladders are so tiny and they haven't learned to control them or even what a potty pad is for! Good luck!

| She's really young to be totally trained. Just hang in there, and she will get it.

| It sounds like you have your hands full! I agree with everyone else that you should consider switching her food and until she gets the point of the potty pad, maybe you should cover the entire bottom of the playpen with the potty pads and duct tape them down. It will be a lot easier to clean up! Reward her when she does her business on the potty pad (which will be easy because the whole bottom of the play pen is a potty pad). And then gradually make the potty pad area smaller and smaller, rewarding her each time she does potty on the pad. Hopefully she will get the point!

| Thank you soooooooo much for the encouragement. Yes, I guess I am just not realizing how young she still is. Covering the whole playpen floor with potty pads sounds like a wonderful idea. Hugs, Angelaine |

I trained Suzy to go by putting her on it when she woke up and after she ate... she doesn't like people watching when she's doing her thing, so I don't look and don't let her go off it until she's gone. When she did her business I'd give her a treat and plenty of praise. It took a week of doing this but now she does it 99% of the time. Good luck with training your new puppy, it can be done it just takes a little work. | |
