| How to teach "fetch"?? Milo (nearly 3 months) loves to play. He goes after the balls, but will not give them back to me. How can I teach him? Or is he too young? Thanks. |

| That's a good question. Penny & Piper will run after them, and then sit down and just look at me.

| Thats so funny, because I had that same prob w/ Meka... I started about a month ago w/ the "fetch" thing... and she'd take the ball and run. But, thats slowly changing as I make sure to tell her "no" and repeat get the "ball", mommy's "ball" and other similar phrases. And low and behold, now she will go get it and bring it to me... She doesnt always want to give it to me, but she brings it... so she has grasped the concept - thankgoodness... hope this helps! 8)

| Ive noticed Yorkies prefer KEEP AWAY much more than Fetch... We tried go get the ball (or whatever) and then said 'bring it back to me' and 'go get it' Once he's coming back to us we'd try saying 'drop it' and reward him for releasing the toy in front of us. It can be done... but it's tough, he loves playing his game where I chase him around the house for 2 hours at a time and only get the toy once or twice!

| Wish I could help. Brody came already knowing how to play fetch. Boy, were we surprised. He was a bit older at 6mos though. The breeder said he probably picked it up from watching his "Auntie" play. Does Milo have any older dogs to play with that might already know how?

| At the start when i wanted him to reteeive a tiny tennis ball or zany or play tug o war I would entice him with a treat, now i just talk to him and if he is in the mood to play(lol), we are fine. |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I did Chachi's technique of plying them with a treat. But Eddie's a total con artist. He'll drop it, then the second I give him the treat, he'll try to scoop it up and run again. You can try using two toys. Toss the first one. When they get it, show them the second one. When they run back to get it, make them drop the first before throwing the second.

| If I entice him with a treat, he simply drops the ball wherever he is... instead of bringing it back. |

| I've tried all the techniques mentioned and finally gave up - and that's what worked - LOL! I throw the ball and cheer them on to chase it but after that I don't do anything - I actually ignore them - and believe it or not they will bring back the ball and practically put it in my hand to get my attention

| mine love to play fetch. the two younger ones in particular. i had to buy the smaller "tennnis" balls because they can't pick up the regular sized ones. Archie would fetch the ball back to me, but.... until I throw the other one, he would lay the ball down and then put his foot on it (like it was his trophy win or something). when I would throw the other one he would then leave it but only after he had another one to chase. guish they are so cute.!.

| Copper started fetch at 12 weeks so I dont think he is too young. i just acted so excited when he got the toy that he automatically gave the toy back so that we could do it again. i keep the focus on him and not on the toy so that he doesnt think I am trying to steel it back from him. He still likes a good game of keep-a-way sometimes but when he stops giving it back i end the game and we do something else. Now he brings me the toy that he wants to play with. We just used lots of petting and praise. Good Luck.
