| Another potty training question!!! Hi, I'm new here and this is my first post. I've been reading as much as I can to help me train my new little yorkie. She's 12 weeks and the potty training for the past week has been difficult. I've seen other people say they have 12 week olds and that things are great. So I'm getting discouraged. She poops in her crate almost every night. I go downstairs as soon as she makes a peep at around 5:30 a.m. but there's usually already poop in there. She won't have peed but as soon as I'm taking her out she starts going. She does this almost everytime I take her out of her crate not just in the morning. But she's always dry and by the time I take her out I have a small trail of pee and a little bit in her crate. I also can't seem to figure out a pattern yet. I also have a Bichon Frise that's 18 months old. I got her at 12 weeks and she seem relatively easy compared to this new puppy. Our bichon had some problems pooping in her crate once in a while but I figured out what I thought was giving her the uncontrollable urge to go (a certain dental bone) and also made her space smaller and that solved her problem. She's perfect now. I've always heard that Bichons were difficult to potty train so I figured if I trained my Bichon I could train my Yorkie. I'm really worried that this is going to be impossible. She just doesn't seem to get it at all most of the time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Lori |

| I think I would try stopping her food earlier in the evening, and maybe carry her to the door so she doesn't piddle along the way. Also make sure she has relieved herself before putting her in the crate. Another suggestion would be to make her area bigger, and leave a pee pad outside of her crate, and take the door off of the crate, so she has either the crate or the pee pad and that's it. Don't get discouraged just because someone else claims to have their yorkie trained at 12 weeks. Some of them take 6 months or even a year before they are 100%. |

I am carrying her out the door to go potty but she starts peeing as soon as I start picking her up out of her crate. I always walk over to her calmly hoping that'll help her not get so excited but that's obviously not working. I'll try your other suggestions. I don't know if pee pads are going to work with her. I've tried and she just kind of stares at me then she'll step off and go on the floor. I'm persistant too but she's challenging me that's for sure. Lori | |

| How often do you take her outside? I start out taking mine every 30mins-1 hour. Then I progress to longer times. Good luck, and Welcome! |

| Don't worry! Yeah, at 3 months my little guy was just old enough to be able to hold it! But that doesn't mean he was potty trained then. It took another 3 months. It varies, but these little guys and girls take time and dedication. With that he/she will learn...So don't worry! Hang-in-there! I know it's tough!!!

| potty training Good Morning Everyone! During the day I do take her out at least every 45 minutes. She usually pees when we go out. The pooping is what's hard. I take her out so much that I'm shocked when I leave to run an errand and come back to see poop in the crate. I think when she gets upset or too excited she poops. She doesn't like when I leave. But the mornings are just hard because there's always poop in her crate when I come down to get her. I'm really trying to be patient but it sure is tough. I just hope she gets better at this!! Thanks for the help! Lori |

| Can you bring her crate into the bedroom, so you can hear hear whine when she has to go in the middle of the night? That helped me out a lot! |

| I agree that you should try to feed her earlier, and bring the crate in your room.

| Potty Training My Meka is 5 1/2 mo's now and she is 50/50 on the training. I know and understand your frustration, because there will be times that she "pees" out of excitement or fear... Its even harder for me because my spouse is not as patient as I am (though he has been great helping me train her).... All I can say is patience and persistance ar a MUST! Good luck

| Maybe... I got Zachary when he was nine weeks old and have had him over two months now and he has never did either poop or pee in his crate. Your crate may be too large also. If they are really large I heard that they will go in them. I don't know though, just telling you what I read. Zachary always goes out when I take him out of his crate and does both of his duties. When I first got him, I was waking him up to go out but after a few days tried to see what would happen and he went all night without an accident and has every since. I get up early though, around five every morning. Also, maybe your little one is excited when it sees you in the morning and tinkles. |
