| Something to stop the chewers I had a young one that was chewing all the oak trim in our new home. I tried pepper sauces, red pepper and some no chew stuff. I think he developed a taste for it. Finally my mom said buy some powdered alum like she used when making pickles. It will not hurt anything. I made a paste of water and alum and put a little on some trim corners in home. It worked. I tasted the alum myself. Ewwwwwwwwwwwww it makes you pucker. Like eating unripe persimmons sorta. Awful stuff. lol I think the alum may be the ingredient in deodorant that they are talking about. Or something similar to it. Good luck. |

| What kind of deodorant? OK, at this point I am willing to try anything. What kind of deodorant should I get? You have mentioned clear but the only "Clear" on a label that I am seeing is the clear gel? Is that what you are talking about or do you just mean the stuff that looks like a white solid stick deodorant but goes on clear? Unscented and particular scent to get/avoid? Also...suggestions on where to get Alum? |

| Alum in Spices Hi again, alum is in the spices in almost any grocery store. If they have the spices segregated for pickling, it will be in those. I think it has the same drawing up/puckering type of effect as the main chemical in deodorant. Only difference is that alum is not loaded with other chemicals. Good luck. :-) |

| I have never used either deodorant or alum...but I would think the alum would be the safer choice.

| Deodorant !! Clear solid or clear gel works wonderfully & you don't have to reapply daily. Bogey used to chew on everything from baseboards to antique furniture. One swipe with deodorant & no more chewing. After he grew out of it, I wiped all the "sites" down removing the deodorant & as good as new !!
