| Why does everybody say....? So I am supposed to get my puppy in about 1 1/2 months and it seems like everybody I've talked to says that yorkies are SO hard to potty train. My only focus this summer is potty training I have a plan that I got from a yorkie book but I'm already starting to get worried because of what so many people say, and I don't even have her yet! What do you all think? |

| I wouldnt worry about what you have heard. Some are harder to train than others. It just takes persistance. They are definitely worth it

| Mine was a breeze to train. Guess I was lucky. We had him since he was 3 months old and he knows how to go to the litter box from day one and had only 3-4 mistakes in the first month and that was it. Another yorkie owner I spoke with also agreed that his was easy to train. I guess it really depends on individual puppies rather than the breed.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Each one is different. Cali trained quickly when I got her at 9 weeks. Pixie was 13 months old when I got her and not potty trained at all. She trained pretty quickly but we still catch her peeing on the carpet more times than I would like!

YT 500 Club Member | We got our little girl when she was 10 weeks old, and she finally was potty trained by one year. However, we dealt with kidney failure in the first three weeks we had her. Anyway, she is more stubborn than not trained. She hates wet grass. She will tell us most of the time when she needs to go out, but she will also sneak around. She is nearly six. I find it is more of a behavior issue than actually being trained since she certainly was easy to teach everything else. |

| It is definitely alot of work.......... It takes alot of time & patience. Your little one will have to be taken out every 15min. to 1/2 hour. Crate training is a must, when you cannot watch her she goes in the crate. Do not give her opportunities to go in the house. Just always take her out and praise her when she is done. Keep her in the kitchen where you can wipe up those accidents. I got Cuddles at 8 weeks, and she was trained fully at 6-7 months. She always goes outside. Again I say it is a full time job, a ton of work, but it is worth it in the end. Cuddles has never peed or pooped on my carpets. God Bless |

| Yorkies CAN be hard to potty train, but so can poodles, bichons, matlese, Golden Retrievers etc. Point being, it really depends on the owners dedication, persistence and such as well as the individual dog. DO your research (sounds like you have) and have a plan, have a backup plan incase that ones doesn't work! I have a larger Yorkie so he started out litterbox trained but is now fully trained to the outside. I have a new Biewer puppy he is almost 6mos (I got him at almost 5mos) he is doing good. I've had a few accidents (mainly my fault), and he is being crate trained and ONLY to outside. Little dogs are hard in the sense often you can potty train them but they are not good at telling you WHEN they need to go outside. I just run my dogs out every hr or so, I go out and MAKE sure they do go. There are instances where even after a year a dog isn't trained, and then some that are fully trained much earlier, just depends. I would say potty training and getting through the puppy stage in general is the most difficult, fun, and rewarding time. You will want to cry in frustration, and laugh out of pure joy.. Kathy |

| I'm sure all dogs are hard to potty train. Even human toddlers are hard to potty train. It just depends on your puppy. I got scared too. I think that if you have a plan, then you are already 1/4 of the way towards your goal. Holly has been really good. She has accidents once in a while, but for the most part I think she does great. The key is consistency I think. Sometimes when it seems they have it down completely, they could potentially regress. Overall, every puppy is different, but if you stick to your plan then you should do great. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

| I think I have 2 boys that are 1.5 years old and still not NEARLY potty trained!!! Lord help me! They are WAAAYYY harder to potty train than any other dog Ive ever owned!! But you'll be fine Im sure... Im a single woman who works full time. I just don't have the time or money to send them to school or be diligent enough to train them!

| My Trixie was easy to train. She was almost completely trained at about 6 months. Pia was harder but I got her when she was older so I blame the breeder Good Luck to you and don't let others scare you

| Rhapsody was easy to train. She was already crate trained, so it was just a matter of using the crate at night, and if we were gone from the house for an hour or two. Then I'd take her out every two hours; also her I'm about to go potty signals were very easy to spot. Tiger has been more difficult. He hates his crate (when the door is closed); it's his refuge and where he stores his toys and bones when the door is open. So night time was always difficult; he'd cry and cry (we tried the crate at night for 2 months, and he'd cry half the night). Finally we gave up the crate at night; we had to sleep. Now he's pretty good; still has accidents though. Especially if I vacumn; I try to make sure he's always outside before I vacumn. . . he thinks it's a monster, and no, we've never chased him with it, lol. (I've actually had people ask me that before.) So it definately depends I think on the Yorkie and also the kind of home/environment they come from.

| Don't stress yourself out about it ahead of time. That's was I did before Sadie came home - I was a nervous wreck by the time I got her because I'd never had such a small dog before and because of all the housebreaking horror stories I'd heard. She's 11 months old and been 90% puppy pad trained for about 5 months. You and your little puppy will be just fine!!! I'll just take a little time.......
