| Going to the bathroom in the wrong place!! Hi everyone! I'm new to the board. I just got my Yorkie Lucy 3 weeks ago. She will be turning 14 weeks on Monday. I am training her to go on the wee wee pads. She has been doing pretty good so far. During the day we confine her to the kitchen. She has her pads on the one side of the room and her bed and food and toys are on the other side. She is using the pads but, it seems like everyday we come home and she has gone on the floor on the other side of the kitchen. I don't understand why she will use the pads sometimes and other time she goes on this other spot in the kitchen. Does any one have any ideas on how to get her to stop going on the floor? She knows that she is suppose to go on the pads but, for some reason she also goes on the floor. The floor is linoleum so, it is easy to clean. I have even tried to clean it with Nature's Miracle but, she still goes there. Thanks. |

| I see you said 14 weeks. It will just take time and patience. Some learn quick others don't. You might try mopping the floor with a disenfectant.

| a good tip is not to use any detergents that contain ammonia also. it does take time and they will sometimes amaze you in the things they learn. observing, time and patience.

| I agree with everyone else. It does take time and she will get the hang of it. My baby still has accidents on the floor sometimes too and she is 10mths. Just give it some time. Also I have heard that they dont like to go on a wee wee pad that is already fairly soiled. I have to change the pads alot with Dolce because she is such a Miss Priss that she even lifts her leg sometimes so she doesnt get it o her feet. Your baby will get the hang of it sooner or later, dont worry. Oh and I love Nature's Miracle, let it sit for a while on the linoleum and then clean it up, this usually lets it seep in and takes the smell away better.

| a suggestion I have the same set up for my dog (in the kitchen with pads and things) He was doing that for a while too. Then I read in Yorkies for Dummies that dogs don't like to pee in their 'house', and their "house" would be anything that smells like people live there. So, that's why they tend to pee in hallways or corners, or under things... because you don't really "hang out" there, so your scent isnt there. So- long story short... we started hangin out with Charlie in the kitchen, and we sit on the floor with him playing. we moved around periodically, so eventually we convered "hanging out" everywhere except for the potty pad area. He hasn't gone elsewhere since. It might just be something that worked for us... but I'd try it. Can't hurt.

| New Mommy Hello Everyone, I am a new mommy to one of the most loving puppies in the world, Precious. Well, I'm not sure if I'm doing "this" right because I just let Precious be herself she's only 11 weeks and I think that it's a little too early to try and train her. Even though I have introduced the training pads to her she tries to make it there but seem to fall 1 to 2 inches away each time ....And as far as the "crate thing" goes, I don't have one for her, even though I've purchased this really expensive but comfortable bed for her she loves to sleep with me & my hubby. Now we are young (21 & 23) so she is actually our little babygirl so I don't want to make her sleep in her bed if she doesn't want to???? Am I confused or is this ok???

I was totally like you when I first got Coco. I was letting do anything she wanted because she was so cute, but I think it's a mistake. I learned by the next 2-3 after I got her that I was the boss, and she wasn't. She already had me wrapped around her little paw. She wasn't listening or responding to NO! or anything. So I put her on a strict learning schedule and now she is even more cute. She listens to me (99% of the time) and we have fun together without anyone being frustrated or tired. Their life is just happier when they have structure and discipline. You'll be happier in the future with your baby. I am also young (24, is that still considered young?) so I know how it is to want to let them be themselves, but if you don't start now, that little cutie will not be easy to turn around later. We think they're young at 12 or 14 weeks but they understand more than we think. | |

| That's right because 1 human year is roughly equivalent to 7 dog years so at 12 weeks, your puppy is really almost 2 years old in human years. |
