pennies in a can?

ok i tried the pennies in a can last night, and it didnt work at all. she just kept on whining more, i think it might have scared her. i'm going 2 try the metal on metal 2night.

Is there a reason she can not sleep with you? It is obvious she does not
want to be left alone in the crate! Scaring her is not going to help it might
only make her stressed.

I honestly think that she's too nervous being in a crate by herself for the can to work. I think the best method for a whining yorkie baby is just to let her whine it out. Yes you'll be tired, but eventually they do sleep. My coco whinned like that for weeks, and I used to cry in my pillow at night to keep from picking her up. I didn't want her to think she would get her way by whinning, so I just ignored her every night and she would keep going and going. Eventually she'd go to sleep. I think the cans are good for barking when they are out and about.

i leave the crate door open and she has run of the x-pen which is pretty big. she has her food, water, pee pad, and toys in there. i leave her in there and not on my bed because she has to use the washroom every 2-3 hours and i have school the next morning at 6:30 so its hard for me 2 wake up each time, take her out of my bed, to the pee pad, wait til she pees, and then back to my bed.

like the above poster said, i would just wait it out.... it will take some time but she will eventually learn to quit whining. it took harley a few nites, then i started hitting the top of his crate and telling him "hush!, nite nite time" in a real stern voice. now when i put him in, i tell him its nite nite time and i do not hear a peep till i get up the next morning.

I agree!!!! Don't do anything to scare that little baby!!!! She is just young and frightened. Getting mad at her for whining at this young age will only make things worse and may scar her for life! I think the pennies in the can are for older dogs who bark all the time. I agree with Nobella, you just need to let her whine it out...or put her in the bed wtih you. Who knows...you may get MORE sleep wtih her sleeping with you and not whining than her whining all night. I let my 2 sleep in bed with me from day 1 and they never whined. I wrapped them up in a towel and made them sleep on a towel so if they did pee during the night, it would be on a towel. You will be surprised how infrequently they pee when they are sleeping. She is probably peeing so much at night because she is up the whole night! I would try letting her sleep in bed with you on a towel

i did let her sleep in my bed last night and i almost rolled over her. i cant stay still when i sleep, and i dont want to end up hurting her. i didn't think the pennies would scare her i thought the noise would just annoy her and make her stop. but it didn't do either, she just barked at the noise lol. matter of fact i heard her bark for the first time.

I'm afraid this is part of owning a puppy. They are just babies and they want to be with their mommies. Frightening or annoying her will just make it worse. Get yourself some ear plugs and show her who's the leader, by ignoring her whinning. She will eventually tire herself out, TRUST ME. Right now, you are reacting to her whinning and she knows that. Once you just stop reacting she will stop whinning. Another suggestion is if you can, place just her crate on your nightstand with her in it. That way she can see you and it might calm her down. That helped me A LOT!!

i agree with letting her whine it out. Morgan never whined in her cage so i was lucky. Its gonna be hard but you have to ignore her. she will eventually stop whining once she realizes your not gonna let her out.

I dont think the pennies in a can is a good idea, i recently used it to stop Duchess from barking when playing with her toys, obviously she is going to bark a bit through excitement but she goes non stop! i started using the can, all it did was scare her so much she wouldn't play with her toys, in fear of the can coming out! i think she thinks that she isn't allowed to play with the toys, when actual fact its the barking i want her to stop. But i deffinatley wouldnt advise using that technique on a young puppy

Putting her crate on the nightstand is a FANTASTIC idea! Poor little girl is just sad because this is the first time she has ever been alone in her whole life...of course she is going to whine. She is used to being with her littermates. Letting her know that you are there in some way, even if it is not letting her sleep in bed with you, will defaintely help a whole lot. If you do let her sleep in bed wtih you again, I really don't think you'll roll over on her...it is just our instinct not to roll over on the little ones. And, they move out of the way. I've never heard of anyone ever rolling over on their dogs and hurting them when they sleep.

Hey Gorjess,

I'm pretty sure Coco is whining because she's SO young and unaccustomed to being away from her mom and littermates. Have you tried those stuffed animal looking things that have a heartbeat like her mom? I'm drawing a blank for the name but I know other users on here would be able to name it. And do you have a heating pad in her crate? She's still adjusting to being at home with you. And how much exercise is she getting during the day? She's too young to walk outside, but maybe you could run around inside with her before bedtime to tucker her out. I know this is rough on you now and that you're longing for a good night's sleep, but it'll get better!!

Oh, I should add that I don't think that pennies in a can is going to solve the problem here. I only use that when Howie's being a big BRAT. Like if he's defiantly running around barking at me for no reason other than to get attention. Coco seems scared, not bratty!
