pennies in a can? how does that work? coco whines a lot during the day and i was thinking about using that, but im not sure how that works. |
anybody? |
what is she whining about? |
Hi there! I have never had to do this but I have read other posts of members that have. You put pennies in a can..like and altoids can and, when the puppy whines you shake the can. The noise makes them stop or, it's supposed to. I have also been told to clap your hands very loud and this will distract the pup also. I tried this and all it did was give me sore hands! lol Maybe if you take a rolled up paper and smack the crate this will help with the night whining |

have you tried a squirt bottle? probably easier to squirt her from the bed instead of throwing the can of pennies and then having to retreive it every time. |

Wow the pennies in a can sounds like a good plan. Ferdinand has been barking allllll night long, so we got him a bark collar (NOT a shock collar). It beeps a really high pitched loud noise whenever he barks. But it was like $50. Maybe I should take the collar back and try this inexpensive alternative with the pennies!! |

The pennies didn't work for us...and we're on our second anti-bark device (non-shocking, of course-just noisy!). What DID work to get Emma quiet at night when she was a puppy was hitting measuring spoons on the door of her crate! Someone else posted that yorkies HATE the sound of metal on metal, so one night at 3:30 am I was FED UP! I went to the kitchen and grabbed the first thing I could find-my grandmother's old stainless steel measuring spoon set, and banged it on the door of Emma's crate. Boy did that work! She was so quiet I was actually worried about her-but we all slept soundly after that! |
I tried the cans of pennies but Gucci barks at it. I tried the spray bottle and she stops barking for a bit and starts again. She only barks when she feels someone at the door or at my daughter's toys. SO I grab Gucci tell her NO, and she usually stops. I just need any advise for when she is in the barking moood, which is rare. What I do know is holder until she calms down. But then what I do when Im not home? |
I use the pennies in a pop can. (rinse it first, LOL). I pick it up by the top, so as to cover the top of the can (dont want the pennies to go flying), give it a really hard shake (once), saying NO at the same time. this technique has not completely stopped them from barking but it certainly has slowed them down. Mine don't bark at night unless they hear something. Until I see just what they are barking at,... I dont' want them to stop barking. so our problem is a little different than your whining problem. I have issues with the spray bottle. I tried that method with Ahia and now every time she sees a spray bottle (like her leave in conditioner) she runs from me. so.... in my opinion, I wish I had never tried that one. |
