| keep a close eye on him. when he starts to go on his pad just pick him up and take him out side. when he potties out side give him a treat. get excited and praise lots. he will soon get the hint.

| The thing is i live on a third floor apartment and by the time i pick him up and take him outside he probably wont want to go pee anymore. Sometimes i see him pooping and he's bareley missing the wee wee pad and i pick him up and put him in the middle of the pad and he will not poop anymore till later on. So i dont think this method will work for me. www.dogster.com/?371442 |

| i had the same problem with romeo. he would hold it outside and only pee/poo on the wee wee pad outside. how i taught him to go outside was by taking him for walks with a another male yorkie. he would watch him and copy his behavior. it worked with just a few walks. now he only goes inside if it's raining. good luck training can be tough. |

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | why do you want to have to take him outside? if he will go on his wee pad, then let him, but being in an apartment on the 3rd floor, I would think it would be to hard to take him outside everytime he had to pee. Does he squat or lift his leg? |

| Potty outside Chewy is 4 months old... He only goes outside so here is how I did it. I bought a baby play yard...(The kind that has no bottom) and I put it outside and put rocks on the ground so he wouldn't get all dirty every time we went out. He KNOWS this is his potty. He holds it in on walks and when we go out anywhere.. he has held it in up to 8 hours!!!! I was really worried about it and talked to the vet but she said it's ok he will go when he has to! Anyway Chewy has not had an accident in about 5 days now!!!! (SO COOL!) I owe this way of potty trainig to my very wonderful friend who has a yorkie and told me what she did. before this I was going crazy trying to walk Chewy and get him to go... I was going crazy and thought he would never get it. My hubby is going to build a roof over the potty area so he doesn't get wet in rain and the snow when it comes doesn't fill in his area! (My hubby's a builder!) I'm not sure if this helps you having an apartment but maybe you could do something like it inside till your baby gets the idea. Chewy goes on demand now when ever he is put in his spot... He just goes... even if it's just a tiny bit. Works like a charm for me. Hope this helps anyone who is struggling. |

| In training Buddy I took him out every 1hr to 1 1/2 hrs the week I got him. I took vacation so I could do this. He was 14 1/2 wks. Everytime he went pee or poop I gave him a small piece of liverwurst. Only when he went. That was the only treat I used. He loved it and before long he got the message. My daughter's trainer for her minpin told her that trick. He was completely trained by 5mos. Never had a potty problem in the house after that. Good luck. I have never used paper or pads. Hang in there. |

| Hi, i am having the same problem with Hailey. When i got her she was 4 months old and was paper trained so she would only go on the papers in the house.I tried bringing the papers outside on the grass but she'll usually end up shredding it and she'll wait to go inside and do her business. I also tried by picking her up when caught in the act and took her outside but sometimes she wouldn't go anymore until later or she'd keep on pooping or peeing while i was carrying her out. What i did is i got rid of the papers inside the house and started taking her out every 30- 60 minutes and told her to "go potty" and gave her treats and praise when she'd go.She started getting the message and did it. The only problem i am having now is that she still has accidents in the house if i am not constantly watching her so it's still a work in progress!!!!.Be patient and constant.Good luck! |

He went in a pile of leaves and I took him back to that same spot a few times (every hour) I think because the leaves held the smell he knew to go there... So I bought a baby play yard... (I think and ex pen is the same thing) It's octagon shaped and is plastic... there is no door so you have to place them in it... I put it right at the same spot of leaves where he was going so it would be the same spot...and I always stay with him to watch him go... I praise him... did the treat thing for a while but then we just decided to praise like crazy... because you can't give treats forever! I put sones in the bottom because he was digging and he would get so dirty. I stuck a little of the leaves he had gone on in there to give him the idea of what I wanted and he went potty no problem! I have a row of bricks around the edge of it and when he is done he gets up on the bricks and I wipe his butt and we are outta there! My friend does the same thing bricks around the edges and stone in the middle... Her yorkie gets up on the bricks when he is done Also! Weird huh? He goes in does his thing and is all done within 3 minutes. He has not had a single accident in about a week now and he is starting to go to the back door when he has to go! I have a plastic bin lined with a garbage bag to clean up his poop and it stays very clean. I hung a tarp over the top to keep the rain off and my hubby will build a roof when he gets a chance... Hope this helps! </IMG>

| Have you tried using the poochie bells? I know some people have great success with them. Jaxon is slowly getting the hang of it. Also routine is the key. If you can take him out around the same time, he should eventually get the idea. I take Jaxon out first thing in the morning - guaranteed poop. Same thing around 4 or 5 in the afternoon. It takes time and patience - hang in there!
