| plays "Catch me if you can" Max has decided he wants to play a new game "Catch me if you can". 98% of the time I ignore it, walk away and he comes to me. My 2% of the time I chase him is when he's picked up something he shouldnt' have. Does anyone else have this problem or have a great suggestion for helping me figure out how to get him to come during these challenging times? He does come to me when I call, but not during "Catch me if you can" |

| I have the same problem with my little man - he does this if I let him out in the front yard and like you said especially when he has something he should not have like the next door neighbors cat POOP! YUCK!!!! Doesn't he know that mommy does not want poop kisses - ewh! I JUST started last night in fact trying to train him to rid of this problem. I hope it works but this is what I am doing. Since I want him to be able to go outside with me but be well enough trained not to run off I am putting him on a leash and my husband is holding him in sitting position and I walk away and we tell him to "stay". I than give the command to "come" and my husband lets him go and he runs to me and gets a treat. We do this over and over again. I am also working with him to stay in the parameters or the grass. I am doing this the same way, with a leash and walking him to the parameters of the yard and when he steps over into the road I tell him "no" and he comes back in the yard and when he sits he gets a treat. I hope what I am doing is productive and works - we will see. Good luck! Oh also a rolled up news paper slapping it on something to make a loud noise usually does the trick to get my guy to drop something he should not have.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali is exactly the same way. What we do is ring the door bell and she comes or call my other dog Maya and miss nosey pants always comes running. I am strating to get her to come when I call her but if she has something particularly good she won't come.

| Tiger does the same thing and he's as quick as a rat . . . often times he goes straight under the bed and so what dya do?! We have been playing this game every morning when I first got him and so he really loves it . . I did not realize that by doing so he would acquire this bad habit of thinking we are always playing the game. I have been luring him with treats and that is the only time he would come close . . . I think when I have my girl, I will not teach her to play this game. . . . |

| Having had this problem with other dogs, I've made it a policy from the very beginning to NEVER chase Joey. As a result, (knock on wood) he doesn't play this game. Instead of chasing him, I use "come" & "drop it" commands. When possible, I just ignore him. He'll often grab a sock (or other item that I've dropped) but I've noticed that if I don't act interested, he loses interest as well - he'll lay it down and wait for me to drop something else. If he's not going to destroy it anyway, it doesn't matter to me if he takes possession of it for a few moments. On the rare occasions - very rare, thankfully - that he has something inappropriate and doesn't respond to "drop it", I'm not above suddenly remembering it's his dinner time or dropping a treat with a "find it" command. ANYTHING to avoid the chase it game. Another help is to NEVER punish your dog for coming when called. Even if he has just destroyed something of yours - if he comes when called, he doesn't get in trouble, he gets rewarded. Even if he has just led you on a wild goose chase around the neighborhood - if he comes to you when called, reward him. Hope this helps!

| I accidently trained my dogs... that "bye bye" means mum's leaving now. (Cos that's what I say when I leave every morning). So every time my furbabies are doing something bad or running away from me I run away from them as fast as I can and call out "bye bye" in the most excited voice I can muster - whatever they are doing! Running towards them makes it a game - and you can totally see it in their little eyes that it's the world's best game to run away from mummy. The idea is to make yourself the most exciting thing in the world - the place where your yorkie wants to be. But Dougal's a heap better now that he's older (and neutered) and Little Wee always sticks close. But you gotta love that adventurous spirit of the yorkie that make them think they can take on the world.

| When I give my dogs treats, they have to "sit" and "stay." And, they are both very good about doing this - to get a treat. Now if anyone is at the door. My Yorkie and I go toward the door - but before we get there, I have him "sit" and "stay" about 8 feet back. And, he'll stay there while I open the door. Also - if he's running around (in the house) with something, I'll have him "sit" and "stay" -- and he usually does..... and I can easily catch him and pick him up. Don't ask me how I got this working so well.....but it works for us. Carol Jean |

| Like i said, Max is not motivated by food/treats. He does take the treats but only to play with them. The trainer suggested Hot Dogs but I'm afraid if I do that, he wont eat his normal dinner. Plus I'm afraid he'll get diaria. Btw, Max isn't allow to eat until I tell him "OK" he sits or lays down near (about a foot) from his dish but is not allowed to eat until I give the command OK. Just wish he was as obedient with coming when he plays "Catch me if you can" |
