When I give my dogs treats, they have to "sit" and "stay." And, they are both very good about doing this - to get a treat.

Now if anyone is at the door. My Yorkie and I go toward the door - but before we get there, I have him "sit" and "stay" about 8 feet back. And, he'll stay there while I open the door.

Also - if he's running around (in the house) with something, I'll have him "sit" and "stay" -- and he usually does..... and I can easily catch him and pick him up.

Don't ask me how I got this working so well.....but it works for us.
