| Barking in the night I just got my yorkie yesterday. I went to sleep and had him in his cage beside my bed. I normally sleep with the tv on..but low. He woke up at 2:35 am and started to wine then started barking. I took him out to walk around for a little while then went back to sleep..when i try to put him back in the cage he barks and wine. he did the same thing at 4:30 am. i let him out and bought his bed in the room with me. I figured that he didn't want to be in the cage. but in the future if he wakes up in the middle of the night, what should i do? im new to all of this. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | How old is he? Most do wake during the night when real young. I would give him a few nights to settle in and let him bark, unless you want him in your bed . Some people put them in bed right away. With Cali who was 9 weeks when I got her I would put her in her playpen by my bed and she would sleep intil 1 or 2 in the morning then cry so I would put her on her little carrier on teh pillow next to me and she would go right back to sleep. Good luck hopefully you will get some good advice from others on this.

| our little guy cried continually for three nights straight. Finally just gave up and let him up on the bed. Stopped immediately. He's trained us very well. |

| Our little girl is 4 months old and she did the samething for about a week after we got her. my two daughters got tired of her crying so they put her in bed with them at night now... she does fine all day long when she naps in her crate. good luck Laura & Liberty Last edited by liberty's mommy; 03-07-2006 at 05:30 PM. | My pup has slept with me since the first night I got him. He has never cried or barked and has slept 6 to 7 hours from the first night on. He isn't much of a wetter at night, but wears a belly band - just in case. Now that he's older (7 months), he definitely doesn't have the need to be with me so much and often will sleep in his own bed or even in the other room on the sofa. Still sleeps with me a lot though. | Hello everyone, My name is Muireann and I am an Irish girl living in Finland. We have Poppy now for two months and she is five months old. As far as potty training goes she is doing ok. My main concern however is the noise she is making during the night. We have her in her own bed in our sitting room but she scratches and barks at our bedroom door for at least an hour every night before she goes back to her own bed.....of course it is good that she is sleeping in her own bed as I don't want her in with us however I am so worried that she is doing herself damage by barking and whimpering so much .... I would really appreciate if anyone had any ideas to stop this behaviour. Thank you so much and Greetings from Finland! |

| Jackson did the same thing that you're describing. He would wake up at the slightest noise and bark and whine. That lasted 2 nights and then I decided that both of us needed a good nights rest and he took his rightful place in bed with me. Sorry I could be more helpful but this worked like a charm for us!! | Bella sleeps really well at night but her crate is right next to my bed (level w/my bed). She can see me fine and I can even pet her through the cage. She sleeps well and doesn't whine or fuss. EXCEPT- when I go to the bathroom and she can't see me. Then she whines and whines and whine. She (thankfully) does not bark at night... just whines. But then, in the morning crated, she BARKS like crazy when I leave the room. It drives me crazy and I'm afraid the neighbor downstairs is going to complain! I've tried ignoring, tapping the cage and saying "Hush!", sprayed water at her, and even jangling the pennies in a jar someone, somewhere recommended. This all just seems to make her bark louder and become frenzied. I know I'm supposed to ignore her. I do, and take her out only when quiet, but she still barks when I'm not around and it is oh-so-frustrating! |

| Sorry this is an older thread but I have a question... Has your Yorkie ever pooped/peed by accident in bed? Would they give you an indication if they had to go in the middle of the night? Would they jump off the bed and go on the floor? I'd love to have my Yorkie in bed sometime with me, but as he's pooped many times in his crate at night, I'm terrified he'd do it in my bed! Currently, I have him crated at night in the kitchen. Lately he's been barking and barking for hours, on and off, at night, and it's causing me distress and many sleepless hours. I think I'm more worried about my neighbors than anything. Napo is 13 weeks old. I'm gonna try to keep his crate next to my bed to see if that works better. I don't understand why all of a sudden he's having a problem with being by himself in the kitchen.

| None of my dogs are barkers - but they all bark occasionally in the middle of the night (once or twice). They just hear something. I guess this is why they are called "watch dogs." During these episodes, I have discovered a skunk on the back porch, a racoon on the back porch, and once saw deer in the backyard --- other times, I haven't been able to see what they got excited about, but I'm sure something was out there. Interestingly - unlike you - when my TV or radio are on, they are less apt to bark because they don't notice outside noises as much. Carol Jean |

I hate it when that happens - when I inadvertently train something that I didn't mean to. Joey isn't supposed to go upstairs. He's so good about coming when called, though, that he always gets a treat for it. So, what does he do? You got it. Runs upstairs as quickly as he can when he gets the chance so that he can get his treat for coming back! {Yes, I'm still treating him for coming back, though, because I don't want to weaken his response to that command!}.

| I have had Rylie for 5 weeks now she will be 3 months old next weekend. when i first brought her home (7 weeks old) i tried putting her in her cage at night she slept there for about 3 hours then cried and whined to come out, she had to pee then i tried to put her back in she refused. So since that day she has been sleeping right next to me everynight. And when i lay down in bed and don't pick her up she tries to jump up and when she realizes she still to small to jump up she whines and cries till i pick her up. I have never had a problem with her peeing or pooping in my bed or in her cage. I dont know how she does it but she sleeps about 7hrs at night then goes to the bathroom and then back in bed she somehow is able to hold her pee. Having her sleep in my bed at night has been a great bonding experience for us both. And i guess it helps that she's such a good sleeper.
