| Housebreaking and the Potty Patch needing feedback and advice I have a rescued Yorkie. We don't know much about her of course, she was found running loose in the country scanned and ad ran to find her owners but no one claimed her.We LOVE her to pieces and she is trying her best to be a good housebroken baby, BUT she just cannot hold it longer than like 3 hrs...except for during the night when asleep. I get up to go several times so I let her out then about twice and she will go right away in our own yard and I don't mind this when it is not sub zero temps . During the day however she will not go unless she is walked and I am not really able to walk well (bad back) and my husband either as he has Parkinsons...but he does do it cause he loves her so much. I am wondering if we put up an expensive fence if she will learn to go to the bathroom on her own running around in it??(even if not I imagine it will be good for exercise for her)...We have a fairly good sized yard. Also I was wondering about getting a "potty patch" for when we have to be gone...Would she even use it? What kind of success have those of you who have tried one had? She seems to like to use rugs and while that is better than the carpets because I can wash them it is destroying the backing on them and I kind of can't use them for underneath the cat bowls or in front of the doors because she likes to use them for going ..She sometimes will use the puppy pads or at least close to them and Last night we went to dinner and grocery shopping and she held it the whole 3 hrs but boy she went right outside the door as soon as she was let out... So I pretty much know 3 hrs is it for my little sweetheart! Anyway suggestions appreciated and any info on the Potty Patches (also have cats so would they mess in the potty patch and make messes in it?) Thanks in advance. |

| I can only imagine how much my two babies would love to roam around in a small, safely fenced off area in a backyard. But, I live in a condo, so they don't have that luxury... As for the porch potty, I believe there's no single yes/no answer to whether your yorkie would use it. They've all got such different personalities. But...if you did get one, I'm sure you could train her to use it, similarly to how you'd train a puppy to use potty pads. Here are my babies using their new Porch Potty that I got them last year : https://www.instagram.com/p/BMC1txtB...ttie.and.casie I keep this on the Porch, which works well for me when the weather is too intense or on weekend mornings / late nights when I don't feel like taking an elevator ride to take them outside. I've also found an amazing DIY porch potty that I would have wanted to make, but I don't have the tools or the space for such a DIY: DIY porch potty - Album on Imgur We don't have many rugs at home, but the few that Casie has had accidents on, I've taken them away. Now...I'm left with one mat in the washroom. I plan to keep it that way for some time, until she gets into the routine of only going to her "potty area" when she needs to go. If your baby is having accidents, try to limit her access to the carpeted areas until you feel more confident that she knows her "potty area".

| Thank you so much!!! Your dogs are adorable ♥♥ I will get one and try it for those times when we can't be around to take her out... I pretty much have taken up all rugs or use potty pads on top to let her know use those instead.. she does not seem to go on the carpets anymore and hasn't for long time now, thank goodness! Appreciate the reply very much Have a great day |

| Thank you for the compliment!! Hmmm...I would personally advise against putting potty pads over your rugs. It'd be better to limit access to those rugs or take them away, if possible. Otherwise you risk them thinking that "location" is a potty area. (I.e. she may learn to think it's still OK to pee there when you eventually take away the pad.) You can always try only letting her roam freely after you know she's relieved herself. And then to keep her in the potty area when it's time for a potty. They're very smart and learn quickly to stick to a schedule. That would reduce the risk of accidents.
