| Puppy not attached to me? Hi everyone, OK, this is a bit of a selfish question. But we've had our guy for 3 weeks and he's just not very attached to me. I know that's not much time...but I am with him almost 24/7, training him, feeding him, playing with him, cuddling with him... And I get the feeling he could take me or leave me, haha. My boyfriend's friend came to visit...he doesn't like dogs, pretty much ignored him...and my puppy was all over him, followed him EVERYWHERE, and if he left the room my pup would cry until he came back- even when I was still in the room with him!! I babysat a friend's yorkie in the past, and really bonded with him- he was glued to my side, didn't even acknowledge anyone else's existence. I guess I just kind of thought this is what it'd be like with my own yorkie. I know this is a selfish thing, but I'm just kind of sad that he doesn't seem that into me! Haha. Does this change as he gets older...? Or should I change something about the way I am with him? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question to ask. Thanks |

| My Teddy was the same exact way when I brought him home and for months thereafter. I think these dogs are very intelligent so they show affection differently than big dogs. They may not slobber all over you and jump on you but they do LOVE you. This is shown by the way they shadow your movements in the house, lift their heads when you make a move towards walking out of the room, allow you to pet them, etc. My Teddy also greets family members more excitedly than he does me but that is probably because he is used to me (probably takes me for granted!) and they are a novel experience which causes excitement. Does that make sense? You're not alone in wondering about it, I did the same exact thing. Having my dog for almost a year now (Dec 28) has shown me the error of my ways! |

| No question is ever stupid. You are with him 24/7 your BF friends who does not like dogs comes over, someone your pup does not see 24/7, now this guy ignores the pup, this is now a challenge to your pup, win this guy over. Yorkies for the most part want, need and at times demand attention. So now your baby follows this guy around the house, like to say to him "hey look at me, I am here", the more this guy ignores your baby the more determined the pup will be win him over. Never feel bad when ppl come over and your baby is all excited to see them, he loves you, but he sees you all the time. Yorkies are people dogs, he's going to be all excited to see ppl he does't see all the time. He is just a little baby in a big world, with new things coming into his life almost everyday. All he wants from this guy is attention, the more this guy ignores your baby, the more your baby will want this fellow. Never feel your Yorkie prefers someone else over you. As they get older they change, give the baby time to grow, he is your dog and always will be.Try extra treats when this fellow comes over, when your pup cries when this guy leaves the room, hold your baby, give him a treat. It would break my heart if someone ignored my boy and my baby would cry for them. I would show him extra love and attention.
