| Going Backwards? Hi Everyone - I am new here and need some help. I just got my cute little yorkie a month ago. He is 12 weeks old and I have been pad training him. He finally caught on and was consistently peeing and pooping on the pads, I have three of them in various rooms. As of yesterday he has started pooping in other places, not on the pads. When I catch him, I gently pick him up and put him on the pad to finish, but he runs off the pad and proceeds to poop somewhere else. What can I do? Is he regressing or is it just an accident. I was so happy that he caught on and now I am not sure whether to go back to the drawing board with him. Any suggestions? |

| I haven't gotten my puppy yet so I can't give you much advice...There are lots of people here that I am sure will give you great advice! I have done a lot of research and this breed takes a while to be fully potty trained...don't give up it just takes time and consistency to get there! Good luck and don't give up hope your puppy will catch on just give him time!! |

| Although I don't have any great tips for you, I saw your post and wanted to see how he's doing. Has he gotten any better? I'm training mine (who's 5 months) to go outside and boy, I'm having a heck of a time. He'll sometimes go a day or two without an accident inside, but then he'll have 2 in a day. I'm frustrated right there with ya. |

| doing better Thanks girls. Lori he is doing much better. He still has accidents here and there, but for the most part is doing well. I am pad training him bc the vet told me not to take him out on the grass until he is 20 weeks because of parvo. It's weird bc every now and then he will go under the couch and poo. It must mean something but I'm not sure. Now I'm tackling his biting. He is always wanting to chew on our hands and sometimes he really hurts and nothing seems to deter him. Hoping he grows out of it. He is 14 weeks old today and 3 lbs. 10 oz. I hope he doesn't get too much bigger - he is perfect this size. |

| Backward steps are normal in potty training a yorkie pup. It can be a lot of work, as yorkies are terriers and terriers can be kind of stubborn some times. With Cookie she probably had 5 times or so when she'd take big steps back after lots of positive days, but she eventually got it as in now very trustworthy with regard to pottying at 11 months (and she has been since about 6.5-7 months age). Your pup will probably still grow a lot. Cookie was 3.5-3.75 lbs at 14.5 weeks and is now a pretty athletic (not fat) 7.5 pounds at 11 months.

| For biting, have some chew toys and always switch up your finger or whatever your pup is chewing on that he shouldn't for a chew toy and then praise praise praise when he chews the toy. At that age they want to chew everything in sight, since they're teething.

| Oh I'm glad he's doing better! I started mine out on pads before he had his shots and because it was cold, but he didn't pick it up very well. And he liked to shred them. When I began bringing him outside he did much better! Seems like he still isn't able to (or choses not to) hold it for very long. He's quite a fickle little character. Kinda wish now I'd have just stuck it out with the pads and maybe had better luck. Good luck with the biting! Luckily that's a habit we haven't had to deal with much. We keep lots of things on the floor for him to chew on though, bones, toys, kongs with treats... |
