| Yorkie fine with cutting except her fringe? So my girl is fine with getting her trims around her body & neck but then tries to nip you when you try to cut her fringe. I have tried letting her sniff the scissors and brush but she will be fine with it but...-it didn't help one bit when it came to the cutting! I try to make it as less stressful as possible for her and make sure its quiet and relaxing. I am going to take her to the groomers in March or April but i am so scared she will nip the groomer and i'l have to get rid of her. She is definitely NOT aggresive and has grown up around kids. I am trying desperately to get her used to it. We trim her about once every 2 months in summer and once every winter. She will ( hopefully ) be getting shaved in a puppy cut for the spring/summer. I feel so bad when she runs away from me afterwards. ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED! THANKS! -Heidi & Rosie

| I have one that is scared of scissors around her face. What I do is have my Dad hold her. It worked @ 1st, but she still fights me. So last time she needed her muzzle/ beard trimmed, I put her in the sink, cut her hair & she had no time to react! I guess the whole positioning thing threw her off, she thought she was getting a bath. I'll have to place her somewhere else if she starts throwing a tantrum in the sink! I'm not sure why she's the way she is, I never hurt her w/scissors. I did nick her ear w/a clipper when I 1st started grooming. When she was 7 months old, a groomer burned her lip w/hot clipper blade. Not sure if it's bc of that, but she doesn't like the sound of the scissor cutting. She throws her head back. If you can figure out what it is that upsets her, maybe you can figure out how to work around it. You also need to stay calm & collected, they can pick up on the energy. She might not act like this w/a groomer...I'm a groomer & even tho my dog freaks out w/scissors, I've never had a dog do that to me when I was a mobile groomer. GL!

| Hi Heidi and Rosie, and welcome from a fellow UK-er!! Our Harry used to be like that when he was little (was he ever little?!!!). Fine for the rest of his body, but the fringe and eyebrows.... In between groomings, when I tidy his face up, I always do it from behind. I use round-ended baby scissors, just in case. It's brilliant if someone could be there to help you, to reassure and maybe gently hold her face. I wish you luck! Sally + Harry x |
