New Puppy We picked up our first puppy 5 days ago as a Christmas present to my Fiance. She had been wanting a yorkie for about a year now. He is now 14 weeks old. A few issues he needs to get over. He doesn't fear heights he will try to jump off anything. So we cant have him on the bed or on the couch. How can we stop this? He thinks his pee pads are blankets/ toys. We have a play pen setup with his Crate/ Bed inside and pads covering the floor. Some how he will manage to hold it all night and the second he comes out he will go. Also he doesn't seem to mind the car at all. But we had to do a little traveling to my Fiance's Parents on Christmas Eve/ Day. However he cried anytime it was in the dark. We had to keep a car light on for the entire hour 1/2 drive to keep him calm. Is this normal? And we are trying to switch him to Fromms puppy food. However he loves it so much he picks through his food and will only eat the Fromms over the Purina which he was on. Is it ok to increase the amount of Fromms since he is not eating the old food since his first taste? And it is not messing up his stomach?

| WELCOME TO YT! Lots of experienced folks here. Jumping off the bed is a real no no - you can hear from folks here who have experienced the fractures and/or head injuries. I got a 5 step foam stairs to put beside the bed for Cali, but you still have to watch them - especially if they are fearless jumpers There are holders for piddle pads that mKe them difficult to play with. I hear you are supposed to transition their food slowly but sound like your pup has decided what is appealing. Just watch for diarrhea and tummy upsets. Others will get on board and give you more ideas. This is the right place. Hang in your baby is still very young.

Update of last night. My Fiance has been working on his potty training as right now in the slow season she is only working 2-3 days a week. Our little one used his pad for his first time on his own. She gave him a potty dance and a few cheerios. Really hoping this keeps up. He learned the word "sit" and is already expecting a treat every time my Fiance says "sit". I got home and took the legs off the couch/ love seat. My Fiance wasn't to happy about this at first but after she realized that it dropped the couch almost a foot she didn't mind. And then we sat pillows on the corners of each so that he could easily go up and down. And he does he has made a game of using the pillow to get up and down repetitively. This weekend I will find/ build some stairs for the bed.

Update, training is going well so far. I placed pads in every room of the house except the room mates bedroom and the office. Which he is not allowed into either. Well I discovered that he really likes to use the pad at the end of the hallway in the room mate/ guest bathroom. Thankfully our room mate loves him as much as My Fiance and I. And doesn't mind his pad being in the bathroom. We are still unable to get him to potty in the play pen. And he will try his best to hold it while he is in the bathroom. He only seems to go if my Fiance sleeps in late. But he does use the pad in those times. He is having about 1-2 accidents per day. Which is great! since they have all been in the hallway or outside the roommate/ guest bathroom door. We believe that he is on his way to his pad and just cant hold it any more when these occur. I wish he would use the ones around the house more so he doesn't have to run so far to use one. So far he has "sit" down completely. He knows what "stay" is but he is so easily excitable/ ADD that he cant sit still for very long unless hes about to go to sleep. Things he really needs working on, Jumping, Biting, Eating anything that he finds, thinking he can fly, and humping people. Last edited by jdouglas; 01-07-2014 at 12:33 PM.

Paper training my puppy too Hi, Congrats on your puppy. I got one for the fam too over the holidays - she's a yorkie-poo, but she's more yorkie, then poodle. We're paper training her too. We've had here for about 3 weeks. We have a crate, connected to the pen. She goes on the pad when she's in the pen, but when we let her out, she goes on the floor. She doesn't seem to be making an effort to get to the pad :'( I don't know how to get her to try to get back into the pen. Maybe I'll leave one outside the pen too? She's also learning "sit", but she only does it on command when she thinks she's getting food or a treat. Not sure how long it will take for her to do it without expecting a treat, but I guess I'll find out. Here's a picture of my baby Mocha. I'm so happy we got her!!
