| Nail Trimming HELP!! Okay I have a 4 year old Yorkie named Mitsi. Well when She was little We lived in the country so we really had only one vets office near us. they were nice and had taken good care of my other dogs at the time, but when they cut her nails for her puppy assessment they quicked ALL of Her nails. She was bleeding. Now I cannot cut Her nails without a fight, she howls and whines and it makes me feel bad and makes it hard to cut them with her squirming. any ideas how to fix this? Ive tried for years to correct it, even taking her to our current vet who is very good and letting them cut them. (that takes nearly 8 people to do it) and it costs me nearly twenty bucks and puts so much extra stress on her |

| Have you tried a dremel? My Huey won't let me cut his nails since I quicked one of them my first attempt but he is great at the groomer and at the vet with only one person being able to trim his nails. The vet techs use clippers and the groomer uses a dremel. Maybe the clipping sound reminds Mitsi of being quicked and she might do better with the dremel?

| I have 2 that acts like I'm going to kill them & they see the nail clipper as torture device...I use the kiss-e collar that Mom to Hot Rod makes, it prevents them from trying to bite the nail clipper & it blocks their view. I also wrap them tightly in a towel, make a yorkie burrito, put them on their back (only bc this is the easiest way to see their nails) & trim their nails. By the time I'm done, they're panting & I'm sweating...but the nails are trimmed! TG the other 2 are calmer & let's me trim their nails. P.S. You also need to grab their paws very gently but firmly, don't let go. Otherwise they're going to keep pulling their paw away. If it gets uncontrollably too much, give them a break & go back to it.

| "Crab Bait" is a little squirmy, I've been just doing a few at a time and it seems easier on him and I... I like the burrito idea... I may try that. I tend to take very little each time and just do it more often. |

| try reconditioning her. Get some nail trimmers and just put them by her and give her a treat, move it closer and closer to her over time, giving praise and treats. Eventually touch her nail with it and give her a treat if that goes well next time hold her paw and touch it with the trimmers then treat. Maybe eventually even cut the littlest tip off one toe. We have had to do this with some dogs and if you go slow, using positive re-enforcement it usually works fairly well.
