| Potty training HELP!!!!! We got our Charlie 1 month ago. I have never had a pet, so I have no Clue what I am doing. After speaking w some friends, I decided to pee pad train her. I have her right now, inside a child's playpen, her bed on one side, and her pee pad on the other. She seems to be fine with that. She always pees on the pad. But I eventually will need to get her out of there. As often as I can, I take her out of the play pen, and immediately put her on a pee pad that I have on the kitchen floor. She pretty much pees on demand, she comes for her treat, seems like she is getting it. She has gone on the kitchen floor pee pad on her own a couple of times, but it's very hit or miss. I don't let her roam around, because as soon as she hits the carpet, she wants to pee. Am I confusing her training her on 2 separate pee pads? I am confused. Also when she is trained, and I leave her at moms for the weekend lets say, will she know to go on the pee pad, even though she is in a different place? Any suggestions will help.... Thanks |

| Hello! Welcome to YT and congrats on your little bundle of joy! She should learn to go on pee pads (even if there are multiple). We have three set up for Izzy throughout the house and she will go to them depending on which room we are in. So I personally don't think you are confusing her. I would be consistent though, like what you have been doing and if you notice she goes on the carpet, immediately pick her up, tell her no and place her on the potty pad and give whatever command you are using for her once she is on the pad. Hope that makes sense. Of course, when she does go on the pad and you see her, praise her and you can even give her a treat or two. When she goes over your mom's house, make sure you or your mom show her where her pads are and where she is expected to go potty. Good luck!

| Ziva was pretty well pad trained when we got her home so I couldn't figure why she was missing at times. I moved the pad to the same location in the room as at the breeders and we had much better results. It took a long time to be able to move that pad to the garage (inch by inch!) Abby does not need the same type of consistency, much more flexible and easygoing. |

| I have the same set up for Cooper at night, and during the day I have him in a large X-pen with a potty pad on one side and he knows exactly where to go. Eventually he will have to learn to go outside, and I'm wondering whether that will confuse him. Glad to hear that I am not the only new mommy with potty questions!

| Ok, so this is what's happening w Charlie. She was doing so well. She had been peeing on her outside pad for a few days now I was so happy, she would walk over by herself, and come to me for her treat. But yesterday and today is like she has forgotten everything!!!!! She had been peeing all over the place. She wAs doing so good, I don't understand why she is doing that? Any suggestions? I feel bad for restricting her to her play pen and the kitchen, but if I let her roam around, she will pee everywhere! What do u guys think? |

Senior Yorkie Talker | My puppy arrived for about 2plus months. From the start I did not confine her, I just allow her to roam. She was 8 months old then. Yes she pee and poo every where she likes, as expected. I wanted bathroom train her. I have an extra bathroom where all the cats and dogs will go in there to pee and poo. It was really tedious 2 months back, we would need to clean up for about 8times per day! I almost lose my patience. Bring her to the bathroom so many times, she still clueless about it. I decided to use rewarding system, I locked her inside the bathroom, asking her to pee, Then gave her a treat after she pee. She did that only if I lock her inside, she won't go in to pee on her own. After that, I changed my mind, I decided to use punishment method. I do not bring her in the bathroom to pee at intervals anymore. I. Closely monitor her, if I happen to catch her doing the peeing action, I caught her on the spot and I lock her in the playpen. In fact this method was very effective, because for after a week, 50% of the time she started to pee inside the bathroom! I'm very happy about it. Now she still pee Outside 30% of the time. But at least I cleaning less now
