I have the same set up for Cooper at night, and during the day I have him in a large X-pen with a potty pad on one side and he knows exactly where to go. Eventually he will have to learn to go outside, and I'm wondering whether that will confuse him. Glad to hear that I am not the only new mommy with potty questions!
