| Outside vs puppy pad vs litter box. GOING CRAZY Like most, struggling to potty train this cutie and snow is coming tonight! She refused to go bathroom outside today because of heavy rains. The last three months of my life have been consumed following this dog around like some crazed lunatic , screaming at my family to crate her if no one can watch her. For the most part we take her out hourly and she pees. Poops are sporadic and usually involves a lot of running around to get it movin . Been trying to train her to ring a bell and that's not going well yet either. If left alone in xpen, she will pee or poop when no one looking, but this is rare because she likes crate better than xpen. Last night I experimented and put down a paper towel in pen while I watched some basketball and had a coke. 10 mins later I checked and she had peed on towel. After she wouldn't pee in rain today I put her in pen. Waited 10 mins, then put down a paper towel and voilą, pee on towel and poop on towel. I feel like I'm wasting time with outside training as I don't wanna stand in rain or blizzard either. even in summer, I gotta go outside with her as I can't let the hawks get her Today I expressed my frustration to the lady at the pet store who mentioned they have litter boxes for small dogs???????????hmmmmmmmm?????????? That got me thinking??????? I need some feedback/recommendations/advice! Thanks in advance |

| I tried a litter box with recycled paper pellets for a brief period of time, with my last yorkie. I couldn't stand the smell of the wet pellets, it was horrible. Combine that with the fact that it's hard to transport a litter box with you when you're on the go...and back I went to potty pads. With my current yorkie ZoE, (age 2) I used potty pads from the get go. They are great, regardless of the weather. They are easy to transport....I put one down when visiting family and ZoE knows exactly where to go. I've used them while traveling and have put them down outside, on the floor of a restroom and even in the trunk of my car...and ZoE will go on them. And I love the fact that I don't HAVE to be home for her to go potty...she just goes when she needs to, and if I'm later home than expected due to working late, stuck in traffic, having to stop at store, etc. that I'm not forcing her to "hold it" for an unreasonable amount of time.

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Potty Training encouragment I've had my Yorkie, Jasper for just 12 weeks and it has been a challenge getting him to start using a potty pad. lately he has been listening and pees on the pad and then goes away from the pad and poops on the floor. I understand he's just a puppy, but he pees on the pad why not poop? He's playing is bitting, can not play without grabbing someones fingers or arm and constantly chews on it. Yes, he's a puppy and I want to be as humane as possible. I like to hear some suggestions, bad boy doesn't work, and all those other puppy talk. HELP I've noticed also that his hormones are acting up, he's either humpping our legs or goes on his bed and humps his blanket. Is this normal for a 12 week puppy? |

How big is the potty pad you are using? My ZoE will not poop right where she's peed, and she likes plenty of room to walk around and circle until she finds her right spot to poop. So I put a few pads down right next to each other, down one side of my hallway, where her potty spot is. So maybe he'd do better with a bigger area too? Puppies are like babies & they like to mouth everything, including you. Firmly tell him no when he nips at you and give him a toy that he can chew on. I used to tell ZoE "NO!" and then I would ignore her for a minute. She quickly learned that nipping/biting me would not get her any attention or playtime from me. Like in all training, you just have to be consistent. As to the humping, I've no clue as I've never had a boy dog. Hopefully someone else can respond to that.
