I tried a litter box with recycled paper pellets for a brief period of time, with my last yorkie. I couldn't stand the smell of the wet pellets, it was horrible. Combine that with the fact that it's hard to transport a litter box with you when you're on the go...and back I went to potty pads.

With my current yorkie ZoE, (age 2) I used potty pads from the get go. They are great, regardless of the weather. They are easy to transport....I put one down when visiting family and ZoE knows exactly where to go. I've used them while traveling and have put them down outside, on the floor of a restroom and even in the trunk of my car...and ZoE will go on them. And I love the fact that I don't HAVE to be home for her to go potty...she just goes when she needs to, and if I'm later home than expected due to working late, stuck in traffic, having to stop at store, etc. that I'm not forcing her to "hold it" for an unreasonable amount of time.
