| New puppy owner couple questions! Hello all, Sorry to ask these questions but I can't seem to find answers to these since most answers are very generic on how to treat them so I'll ask them here and I'm sure it'll help other owners with the same problems. My yorkie puppy is a 2 months old male, the previous owner gave him a couple vaccinations already so I need to follow up with the rest. Today is the 3rd day with him. The owner said he was eating Pedigree, but I have no idea which kind, and I lost contact with her. I just lost her number, but she was a great owner. Invited us to her home and my yorkie's parents are healthy and energetic. I went ahead and got the "Wellness" brand for puppy dog food, but he is not eating it. Only when we hand feed him but I know that's not a good idea since he's going to be conditioned to be hand fed. I want to go out to buy a bag of Pedigree to mix it in, but I don't know which one. Can I just assume she bought her some sort of Pedigree Puppy mix and go with that? Would all Pedigree taste the same to him? I tried adding some warm water to the Wellness, and he doesn't eat it unless hand fed. It's not causing him digestive problems since his stool is quite firm and no diarrhea, but he's just not eating it himself. Should I just do the eat it or I take it away approach with the Wellness? Or go out and buy a bag of Pedigree? This will be Day 3 for Wellness brand. My schedule isn't a normal 9-5 work schedule so I wake up at around 12pm and sleep at around 4am. How can we put him onto our schedule? As of now, he wakes up at around 7am and stays very energetic until near 3pm, and then starts to take many many naps throughout the rest of the day. So what happens is, I sleep at 4am and get 3 hours of sleep until he wakes up and starts whining and crying for hours on end. I ignore him most of the morning, but he just gets louder and louder. How do I change his schedule to my schedule if possible and how do I stop his whining? I have work in a couple of hours, and I haven't slept much because of his constant cry for attention. Thanks for the help! |

| I am new myself, but have learned so much through this board. My pups previous owner had fed my baby one of the "bad" foods, but I didn't realize how generic it was until I landed here with a wealth of information. Check out the health and diet section, lots of advice and recommendations on food. As far as your schedule - good luck. The only thing I have realized is getting a puppy is like having a baby, you have to be patient and realize they are like infants - yelping, potty, sleeping habits and all. Just like real skin babies they grow and mature and change. Just change with them. Good luck and Congrats on your new furbaby! My baby is only 4 months old and we have gone through many changes already. I am sure one of the more experienced owners will give you some great advice.

He may even not be totally weaned....On the Pedigree, I recommend Pedigree for Puppies Chicken and Beef, canned! Yes, canned. At 8 weeks he needs a wet food in addition to kibble. Give him only about 1/4 cup, twice a day. Always have DISTILLED water available, and buy some Science Diet Puppy for Small Breeds for kibble. He will eat that and will like it, even though it is not the best. I do not think your baby is old enough for other foods yet. If you have only had him 3 days, he is probably homesick for his siblings and Mommy. You are his Mommy now and he is like a little baby. The whining is for your attention. He is not old enough to adapt to your schedule....he is yet a baby.. You must gve him your attention and lots of love. He is not trying to be difficult, he is just being a baby..... He will adapt in time, but he is not old enough yet.........

| You have to realize the poor pup has been pulled from all he knows and now has a brand new environment and mom. Spending alot of time with them will help to alleviate the whining and crying. but you must not give in when its bed time. have the pup in a crate where he can see or hear you and know he is not alone but let him slep in there. play with them ALOT before bed so they tired out. as for teh food, ic ant help there as i got my pup at 3 months old and kept her on dry food. she eats ULTRA puppy kibble and i just wet it and mix in a little bit of dry health extension but she does not eat wet food right now. |
