| I had this problem with my littlest. Only she would grab it and run into our dining room and hide it in there. I put her on a small leash and played "fetch" with her in that very small area. So she knew she would always get it right back from me. I slowly went to longer and longer leashes so she would have to take a step or two towards me for the play to continue. This worked for me/us. Good luck because we use fetch to help ensure to keep activity levels up (especially on rainy days).

| Yep -- I did the leash thing, too! I put Jackson on a 50ft rope line outside and would kind of 'drag' him back to me. If he didn't bring the toy back when I 'reeled' him in (LOL) I would make him pick up the toy and just keep trying. I never went and picked up the toy for him. He now loves fetch! He even plays frisbee.

| My dog is what I call Ball Obsessed!! Seriously she could play fetch from dusk till dawn. She is crazy. What I did is give her a treat that I know she loves, couple more pieces so she knew what I had in my hand. Then, I gave her the ball right in front of me and showed her the treat. As soon as she dropped the ball to get the treat I said DROP IT, and gave her the treat. Repeated several times. I used Cherrios because she loves them and gave her about a 1/4 piece each time. Then I threw the ball and she went to get it and I called her and showed her the " cookie" she ran, I said drop it and gave her the cookie. Next time further, sometimes I gave her a treat some times I didnt. Anyways she returns with the ball because she thinks Im going to give her a treat. I dont have to anymore , just until she got the hang of it!

YT Addict | I wish I had advice I've never actually trained a dog to play fetch... Tikka begs me to take the toy from her.... I throw it and she brings it back and sets it in my lap. If I dont throw it she nudges it with her nose and whines. I would say def. try the leash thing! Pooter is a hider, I throw a toy for him and he takes it to his kennel... let us know if it works for you!

| We have 4, all love to play fetch, bring it back...initiate fetch too by bringing the toy to whomever they want to play fetch with except one: the 5 month old runs down the hall when a toy is thrown for fetch, grabs it, throws it up in the air (which it lands nearly in the same spot) then runs back to the person playing and barks (which I think is dog-speak for "you fetch it") She is not getting the concept of the game...but I guess the end result is she still gets her exercise that way. She's smart enough, knows lots of other tricks, just fetch isn't her cup of tea I guess...so maybe yours simply doesn't like playing fetch.
