I just think it's a mental maturity thing. I've been through the typical housebreaking thing. Soiling in her crate, going outside for weeks on end then squating and going right in front of you. I think theres no getting around the fact that the pup has to see your displeasure if she has an accident IMMEDIATELY. Then they realize that this isn't what I'm suppose to be doing, like chewing on furniture, begging. But to my suprise shes 18 months old and 100% housebroken. I never thought I'd see that day :0). So hang in there!

No luck with potty training Well, we received Sprite's blood work results this morning and everything was normal except that her lymphocyte level was elevated, which indicates an ongoing infection. We'll continue with the Clavamox and hopefully this will explain a lot of the problems with the frequent urination. I'll let you know in a few days if things are improving...yesterday evening and today seem better, but it's really too soon to tell for sure yet. We'll keep going and hopefully get on top of this housetraining issue soon. She's been spending a lot of time on everyone's laps the last few days so hasn't had as much opportunity to make a mistake. Just to answer, when I catch her peeing inside, I scold her very firmly and run with her outside to finish, where she gets tons of praise. If I come across an accident after the fact, I just pick it up and clean with Nature's Miracle...it's too late to be a teaching moment. I just want to thank you all again for the great advice. I really appreciate it. When I learned Yorkies could be hard to housetrain, I didn't realize just how hard it could be, but hopefully both Sprite and the family will master this soon!

hello! we trained rascal on a pee pad. Ive got the heavy type that you can throw in the washer and wash. We got Rascal when he was 8 wks. old and within a wk. he was useing the pad almost everytime. he will go out side if we are out there but as far as any other time, he knows to go to the pad. It is kept in the back room of our house were there is just my comp. and a piano so its not were everyone can see and he will take off running back there to use it.. never a accident in the floor. H even gets out of the bed early in the morning goes to the pad and comes back and jumps in the bed. I did what the lady I got him from said to do. She said when he pees on the floor wipe it up with that pee pad and leave it spread out there a couple days or when he poops.. pick it up and lay it on the pee pad a couple days.. till he starts getting his scent there. Thats what i did and he was trained so fast. I also sit him on it sometimes.. held him there a min. so he could smell his smell and say; this is were u pee Rasacal and tap the pad with my finger. We would clap when we seen him useing it... good job buddy and give him a treat. now i just keep the poop cleaned up soon as i can .. and if i throw the pad in the wash i will lay down a towel till its done and put it right back. Never goes anywhere else! That was a blessing!!

Thanks again everyone for the great advice. I promised an update and here it is. Little Sprite (7 months old) is like a different dog since the antibiotics for the UTI took effect. She's only had about 4 accidents in the past two weeks, and those are really due to the humans not being on the ball here. We are so relieved that the worst is over now and life is much easier for all of us. For others struggling with the same housetraining issue, you might want to doublecheck whether there's an infection also. Sprite had 2 urine tests that were negative (only very low levels of bacteria), but we finally started antibiotics anyway just in case, and in the end a blood test confirmed the infection. I'm thinking that her urine was so diluted from peeing so frequently that the urine testing wasn't very accurate. She's just a precious little thing, and cute as a button. I'll try to post a pic of her soon!
