| Adult Forgets Potty Training? Ok, so Wookie was just about 100% potty trained at our first apartment where he grew up. He learned really fast and rarely had accidents by the time he was 10 or 11 months old. I trusted him to the point where I would leave him out during the day. He was also crate trained. In October we moved out and had to stay with the in-laws for 3 months before making the big move back to NY. Due to family allergies he wasn't allowed in the house, but he still remained faithfully crate trained. Now that we have moved to NY he has made a complete 180. He poops and pees in his crate every single day. He no longer holds it where before he could hold it over night. I started him off back to square 1 expecting him to take some adjustment time. We take him out every hour and regulate his food and water intake. He sleeps and eats in his crate. He even started peeing in his bed. It's like now he only pees where he sleeps. The weird thing is that he doesn't pee on the floor! I wake up every morning to pee in his crate and I don't know what to do. I tried getting a belly band to discourage him from it, but he wets it every day. I know this has been a big change for him, but I'm at a loss for what to do. If his behavior doesn't improve, he'll have to stay in the garage with pee pads but I really don't want it to have to get to that point. Any suggestions?

| Has Wookie had a recent wellness exam with the vet? I would rule out health problems first. Moving around and changes in lifestyle can affect a dog's behavior. How much time was he spending in the crate before the potty problems started? Is it just overnight that he is having trouble with? How is he during the day when he is out of his crate? Yorkies should not be kept in the garage for health and psychological reasons. They are very sensitive to heat and cold and they need plenty of human companionship. Instead, choose a small room with an easy to clean floor and limit his freedom to that area until his potty habits improve. Or put him in an xpen with a potty pad when you cannot supervise him closely. Hope some of this helps.

| Unfortunately the garage is the only place with easy to clean floors. My Mom's Dachsund stays outside for potty training issues as well. Because of this she heats the garage with a heater during the winter. Our garage is insulated. Yes he has seen his vet. A new vet who was absolutely no help and said health wise he is fine, except that he is underweight. I've also had issues with him not eating. Right now he is only peeing in there overnight. He isn't in there really at all during the day.

| How much does Wookie weigh currently and about how much should he weigh? Has he lost weight or has he always been underweight? When you say you are regulate his food and water, how often does he get food and water? Restricting water can be risky. Water is needed to stay hydrated and to keep all of the vital organs healthy, especially the kidneys. How much exercise does he get? Is he energetic, playful or lethargic? I'm still concerned about the garage. Mine is insulated too, but very cold in winter and I am a lot farther south than you. During the summer, a dog could easily die of heatstroke. I just don't want you to experience a heartbreaking loss.
