@JeanieK- Thank you SO much for the link to your website...Both my boyfriend and I tried exercise number 1 and we were successful. He did not hold our gaze for longer than 3 seconds! Also, after the exercise we put our fingers in his mouth and he only licked them and did NOT nip. He is back to nipping this morning, so we are going to continue to do those exercises until he gets it! I have not tried one...will it hurt his teeth? Sometimes I see him chewing on the wire crate rather than his toys....not sure if this is bad...I tried giving him a frozen carrot yesterday but he was kind of so/so with it...He ended up vomiting a little last night, but it seemed to be just digested kibble (no bad smell, or anything) I think he ate too much...he's used to eating freely whenever he wants and I thought it was okay for him to eat a little more if he seemed hungry and he's exercising, but it seems as if the kibble and carrot upset his tummy He's doing better this morning though. I gave him a little bit and some water and he seems to be holding it down fine...
I don't think the chain will hurt him, I'm guessing it just won't be as fun to chew on, so he will leave it alone. I'm happy to hear that you are trying the exercises. I hope they help.

Puppies sold in pet stores are uswually taken fom their mothers around 6 weeks of age, so they have not learned how to play nice, or how to be submissive. So now you have the job of teaching him.

OK I'm sorry, I got you confused with another poster. She had said that hers came from a pet store.

Because he has not had his rabies shot, therefore he is unprotected.

I don't think vets see that as a real danger. My vet says once they have had their 3rd set of shots they are good to go. Refabvies is not something they will catch just by taking a walk. they have to come in contact with a rabid animal. And I realize that could happen, but it is not too likely.

Remember it is an ongoing, process, nothing will happen overnight. But these are some things to do to help establish trust and establish yourself as pack leader.
yikes i just tried this exercise with Lexie and she went insane. Nasty growling and squirming to get free and to bite me! it was hard to hold her still out of fear that she'd hurt herself. I guess that means she doesn't see me as the pack leader. I'll try it for a while though (wearing protective gloves) hopefully something will click with her

I think I would try it a little at a time. First just pick her up like that and keep her close to you, and praise her if she is good, then each time move her a little farther away from you.

How old is she? I've done this with every one of my dogs, and every one has let me do it ranging in age from 6 months to 5 years old. And also the 6 week old puppies.

Ah! The joys of puppyhood! How is Theodore doing today? When you get your bully sticks, he should be in doggie heaven. When mine were puppies, I gave them just plain old raw baby carrots. They weren't frozen. They just loved a couple of them.

I agree. I was not going to not walk Jackson until he got his rabies shot, because he didn't get it til 6 months old. I would have missed out on key socialization time. After third shot, he was set, per the vet.

I hope so! I tried giving him carrots too, he doesn't care much for them! As of right now I'm having a hard time distinguishing between him crying because he wants attention or if he's crying because he is bored/not enough exercise. I take him for a walk before breakfast (only about 15 mins because it's really cold outside and he's freezing) and then I take him on another longer walk prior to lunch time (so around 40 minutes). I've taken him running at the park (by running I mean he sprints and stops ...lol) and then whenever he goes to the bathroom I take him out of his crate and play indoors with him for about 30 mins. What do you think? Is he still bored or is he just being a baby not wanting to be in his crate?

Hard to say! But he's a puppy and they have soooooooooooooo much energy that they can play until they drop and sleep again. It sounds likes he's getting plenty of exercise. Just bundle him up good and he'll toughen up! I put a 4-legged jogger with a coat on top and she doesn't get cold in mid-twenties. He's probably just wanting to be with you and not in the crate. Kacee has cried since I've had her, if she wanted something. My other yorkie would start out with tiny barks and work her way up in volume. They all do different things to get what they want, but they are so much alike in every other way it isn't even funny! You're doing fine and he'll be fine, too.

Also, I would get some special tiny treats just for training or use cheerios.

I think this exercise made her worse, she's turned into a demon now i'm afraid to even pick her up she snarls and shows teeth, growls very viciously when i approach her and bites me hard on my hands i just got a cut from her. I cant even pick her up without her whaling her body around and biting me. She's growling at everything now, growling at toys etc. She's turned very vicious almost instantly i don't know how i'm going to snap her out of this. My brother was laughing saying she needs the dog whisperer

How old is she? From where did you get her? HJow long have you had her. It sounds like she needs a professional to work with her. She definitely has issues and I doubt that they will just go away on their own.

I would suggest getting a Dog whisperer DVD or book, if you cannot afford a trainer.
