I think I would try it a little at a time. First just pick her up like that and keep her close to you, and praise her if she is good, then each time move her a little farther away from you.

How old is she? I've done this with every one of my dogs, and every one has let me do it ranging in age from 6 months to 5 years old. And also the 6 week old puppies.
