I need help.

Our 7 month old Yorkie is about 2.5-3lbs. She had been doing great with potty training until we had our baby 2 weeks ago. She is now going potty in her crate EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. We have 3 kids and the oldest will be 4 on Friday so you can imagine we are BUSY! We are at our final straw with waking up to a mess and having to bathe her. PLEASE I NEED ADVICE. What is the problem? Why is she doing this? Ill list what we have already tried.

Her crate space is TINY now.
Only feeding her once a day and limiting water. NO FOOD or WATER after around 2:00 or so.
Taking her out in the middle of the night. We took her out last night at midnight and 3 am when I woke up to feed baby at 7 I go to let her out and she had peed in her crate.

Any advice I NEED it.. My husband and I are so furious and need this to stop NOW. She isnt eating or drinking well anyway since the baby has been home anyway. Ive given her Nutrical a few days just to make sure she does get hypoglycemic.

Thanks so much for listening we really love her but cant do this much longer. She was holding it from midnight until 6 or 7 before and that was being feed and drinking water at around 4 or 5.

It is obvious that your puppy is reacting to the change in your household. The addition of a baby is a BIG change. Her routine has most likely been disturbed, and it is not uncommon for a wee one's "nose" to get out of joint with less attention, perhaps less exercise, less play time with you etc.

I'm assuming you have outdoor trained her? She hasn't been trained to wee pads?

In the very short term here is what you can try - it is not a solver of the underlying likely problem, but will help you deal with the constant mishaps.

Go to your pet store, buy a pair of panties for dogs that come into heat. Call first because you will need an xxs pair, you line this with a panty liner sanitary pad. Put these on her whenever you crate her. And prior to bed time. Easier to change a pad, then to have to rewash all the time. Get some unscented baby wipes, and you can clean her off when she has soiled her diaper.

Take her out to pee on a REGULAR schedule, 10 minutes or so after eating, after playing, and or every 3 hours. Reward her handsomely for going. Make sure you remove the panties. Before taking her outside.

You do have a full plate, but you want to get back on track, with your previous play/exercise regime for her. Perhaps their is an older girl or boy in your neighbourhood, 13/14/15 or so years old, that is dog experienced who you can pay to play and walk her for about an hour a day. If not you may have either professional dog walkers, or doggy day care she can go to. Again often times good pet stores have brochures on this kind of service.

She is a bit young, and still too small to go on only one meal a day. After dinner walks and play time might be best, as she can get tired after all that exercise.

She is still very young in doggy years, kind of like a one year old human baby, so mishaps will continue to happen.

Having young puppies, with young children and babies, is a very big undertaking, and not usually recommended, as the needs of both pups and babies are very time consuming.

If the crate is really tiny, then maybe she was peeing in her sleep. This is not uncommon for tiny female pups to have problems with urinary incontinence. Limiting her water or punishing her will make things even worse. I think you should use a puppy cam to check out what happened during the night.

Perhaps she is trying to get attention? These pups are smart! Just like children, even negative attention will work for them.
Being angry with a puppy is just not going to help anything. Honestly, it breaks my heart every time I see someone say that about a precious puppy. Teaching a puppy is no different than teaching a child. Did you get angry with your children during potty training? Try to take a deep breath and relax. Maybe a tiny crate is not working...try and xpen and put piddle pads down for her. Put them away from her bed.
Also, I have never heard of feeding a 7 month old puppy only once/day...and then limiting water? No food or water after 2PM??? I have never heard of such a thing. You are lucky you have not had a hypoglycemic or dehydrated puppy! I believe all pups should have access to water at all times.
I don't mean to be harsh, but you really need to rethink what you are doing with this puppy! If you don't have time for her, my suggestion is to find someone who does. Seriously! If you cannot do that or don't want to do that, then please do some research about feeding and housebreaking.

Well said!! I would never not feed my pup after 2pm, Your asking for a big health issue with that pup. Not wanting to be mean but I would find a home for that pup since u have a couple children and they do take alot of time to potty train all of them. LOL

If you are only feeding her once a day she could be having a hypoglycemic seizure in her sleep causing her to wet or poo . You need to contact your vet about this, I guarantee he/she will tell you that pup needs to eat at least 3 times a day. C'mon now would you feed your kids only once a day ? I think not. Why ? they are growing fast and must have nutrients to maintain health and survive. No dog should be fed only once a day as it causes MaNy health issues, Bloat and or starvation are the top 2. I imagine your puppies heart is broken now that her Mama has a new human baby and she's not the baby anymore

Even though she is 7 months she is tiny. It may take her a while. I have found the smaller they are the harder to train. These little ones can't hold it long. If your super busy crate training can be hard. It takes alot of time. A xpen and pee pad might fit her needs better for now. That way she could get up and go to the bathroom when needed.

Also she needs food several times a day for her size.

Your puppy is still just a baby herself. She's had a huge change in her life with the new baby, too. She's probably lonely, terrified, hungry, thirsty....... Please stop and think about how you're treating her. And please, don't withhold her food and water - this is verging on abuse and neglect. She's an innocent little being who doesn't know what you want or expect from her, let alone how she's supposed to give it to you. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now and puppies, especially yorkies, need lots of attention. I pray that you find a solution that works for everyone.

IMO you are in over your head. I can't imagine having three children under four years old, one a tiny baby, and a puppy. It obviously is not working out for you and worse, I feel you are mistreating your puppy.

Perhaps it would be wise to find her a good home and wait to get a puppy when it's a better time. Puppies, babies and small children all require a lot of time and attention.
