| Biting and Snapping if waken Okay so my sweet girl worked through her bitting issues quickly now she has developed this habit of bitting when you wake her up. If she is sleeping on the coach and someone goes up and moves her etc she instantly snaps and growls. I have told the kids and we have talked about it but of course my son today went to move her very gently and then tried to give her a kiss (bad move) and she snapped and got him right in the face under the eye. He is okay ( I think the lesson is learned) but I would like to stop this behavior. She is doing it more and more. Any suggestion. I have tried calling her name making noise before touching her but she seems to not get it until we are going in to move her. |

| Why are you insisting on bothering her while she is asleep? I have a pup in my home that came to me with major issues. To this day, if he is awakened abruptly, he will snap. He no longer bites but did for some time. Usually it is a warning nip now. I just don't let him sleep in areas where he will need to be moved. When he starts to settle down to sleep, if it is in a high traffic area, I make him relocate.

| She tends to sleep right were we are at so if we have to get up etc she needs to be moved or if we need to leave to go somewhere we always crate her. I like the idea of moving her before she goes to sleep. Thanks |

| I hope it works! I know it works for me. Matty used to sleep by my feet, but after getting my toes snapped at a few times, I opted to make him understand he cannot sleep at my feet. As soon as he starts to circle around, I say no and show him a spot that will be safer for him and for my feet.

| My older Yorkie I adopted at 5 Years old came to me doing that. I've heard of some people with older pups that do it. Maybe the mental state of the dog... I tried to get mine out of doing it, by very gently waking him at different times during the day... I was only able to minimize it, and it depends on how deep a sleep he is in when he's awakened. He's worse if you pull the blanket out from under him, slowly and gently. The movement really sets him off.

| My Luxy went through a phase like that - though she seems to have grown out of it. However, to this day, if she falls asleep in her little bed or on a pillow - I just pick the whole thing up and move it to my bed. BECAUSE if she sleeps in my bed - she does not get up in the middle of the night and pee!
