Hopefully you get some good trick ideas from this thread. ![]() Like I said, the book I have called 101 Dog Tricks by Kyra Sundance is great.

| ![]() I try and teach Rambo many tricks. He can sit, lay down, five (like shake but hates his paw being grabbed) roll-over, speak, growl, up (stand on hind-legs), crawl, twirl (stands on hind-legs and goes in a circle) and we are now working on Smile (shows his teeth) He has almost got it but is super excited about the treat and usually barks then growls and finishes with a roll-over. I think I need to take a step back and teach him to calm down!!!

| ![]() Sandy now brings his toys to us when we're asking him to. 'Where's Sheepie, Sandy? Go and bring me Sheepie.' He'll come back with his favourite toy - Sheepie, which is obviously a sheep. lol. Sometimes he gets confused, he'll bring another toy, when we say 'uh oh', he goes back and take another one... lol. It's funny but he knows we're telling him to bring his toy. |

| ![]() I know this thread hasn't been visited in a while... but I FINALLY made some GREAT progress w/ Jackson and basketball. We kinda stopped practicing it all together because he just wasn't getting it. But tonight I got back from being out all day and he was extra fiesty so I pulled out the little Dollar Store rim and tiny ball I got and he's getting it! Slowly but surely. I had to physically hold the hoop in my hand, then I would throw him the ball, he'd bring it back, and I would put the hoop sort of under him (setting him up for success basically) and say "shoot it!" So now he is beginning to do it on his own, but tonight was only our first night so we're gonna practice some more these next few nights and see how he does! Also we tried "say your prayers" the other day... he's getting that one pretty quickly too!

| ![]() Way to go Jackson! ![]() I wish we had cool Dollar Stores like you have, Brit. We visited a couple yesterday and didn't find anything fun, not even essentials like poopy bags. Max and Teddy are working on the "Don't kill each other" trick, lol. I'm glad that you inspired me to work on tricks with the Maxman because he is so proud to demonstrate his talent in front of his little brother. |

| ![]() Wow, your all doing such great things with your pups. Have you ever tried concentration ones? We started out with "Look at Me", with me pointing to my nose and trying to get him to look at me. After a day or two he was looking at me fast then moving away. I put a couple pieces of kibble down on the floor and told him to stay and Look at Me, which he did then I released him so he could eat the kibble. We just kept working at it and today he will continue to Look at Me forever until I release him. This can be used for lot's of things. If unwanted barking is occuring just say Look At Me and then release him, it can also be used outdoors to control barking at other dogs etc. |

Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() We do Watch Me every now and then. Thor is such a submissive dog, he has trouble making prolonged eye contact. I have not taught Thor a new trick in a long time. I recently decided to try Take It, which he's making some progress on. He knows the command has something to do with biting the object, he's just not that interested in actually holding on to it. Then tonight, we had an extended fetching session, and I thought, why not try Hold It? And it worked beautifully! ![]() I'm really excited about this one, because (1) I want it for photo sessions ![]() I'm thinking about teaching him Catch, or maybe Stand Pretty. They look like little prairie dogs on their hind legs, don't they? |

I also have been trying to get Jackson to "hold it" and it's been really difficult for him. He understands the concept... but like Thor, he doesn't wanna hold it for more than 2 seconds without dropping it. I also want him to know it for pictures and videos, etc. It'd be sooo cute if he would hold a sign in his mouth! hehe. Jackson suddendly has become sooo interested in the frisbee! He never was before. Now, I throw it and he goes chasing after it which is a great first step, I think. He's not catching them yet and I'm sure he'll never be like no Border Collie, lol, but we're making progress. I got him the large plastic ones from Petsmart that are like .99 cents but they're still just too big even for him, so I ordered the mini-discs online specifically for dogs and I'm hoping he may actually catch those. I think it was Disc Golf, Ultimate Frisbee & Dog Discs - at Discovering The World, flying discs have been our specialty for over 30 years. Catch was also something Jackson had to learn. I was so used to big dogs just naturally catching whatever you throw at them but with Jackson it was a learning process. He's awesome now! He will catch anything (small little treats, bigger treats, toys, etc). He used to let food just smack him on the head. Sit pretty also took a bit for Jackson to get. He has terrible balance (well, when it came to sitting pretty, he did). But he finally can hold that position for maybe 8 seconds.

| ![]() I was working with Katie on sit, which she got in one night. Then I was trying down, she got that, and to top it off, she finished it off with a roll over! I was so shocked, she just did it on her own! My bf didn't believe that she just did it like that. He insisted I was working with her all day while he was not here, but I didn't! Wow! Now when I ask her to roll over she will do it! yay!!! This girl is so smart! All she needed was some love and attention! Whoever ends up with her is gonna be so lucky! ![]() ![]() ![]()
