Brit, I'm going to try your wall idea when we get back to working on new tricks. Max told me that I need to review the difference between "beg" and "sit pretty." He likes holding his paws curled over in general, so that shouldn't be a problem. If he could drink tea, I'm convinced he would put up his pinky finger. ![]()

Good luck with sit pretty! It's just so cute. Jackson had horrible balance too but hes gotten better. My dads 2 dogs can sit pretty for literally like 10 mins nonstop. When they beg for food that's what they do lol. They have amazing balance.

Thank you for reminding me about the video. I usually wait to watch videos when I am sitting at my "real" computer and can really enjoy them. I have been so preoccupied that I have not gotten to see my real computer for a long time, until now.

| ![]() So, I'm reviving this thread because now that it's been colder, I've been re-visiting trick training more again. For the longest time, Jackson never understood the concept of going to get an object and then putting in a basket, or a box, or whatever. But last night, something in his head clicked when I decided to work on it again. So within 5 minutes he learned how to retrieve a sock and walk it over and put it in the basket. Yay! So now I'm planning on teaching him how to clean up his own toys. ![]() ![]() Hmmm... what else have we worked on. Oh, unzipping my hoodie/jacket. He's learned how to tug on my zipper and unzip it (but I have to tie a shoe string to it - he still can't figure out how to grasp the zipper itself). That should be a cute one. Also, turning on/off the light. I have him use a loveseat and nudge the lightswitch with his nose, but he seems to want to use his paws. He kept offering me his paws so I decided to work with it and think it MAY work better. We'll see. He has yet to actually flick the lightswitch but it's a start that he's bringing his paws up to it as well as his nose.

| ![]() I think he will get the laundry trick pretty fast since he's got basketball down now. The lightswitch is waaaay easier to teach if you have those kind of switches that are the big and flat kind rather than the original little ones. I've taught Uni the "tap" command, which is basically I point or touch a surface or object and say tap and she will go over to it and put her paws or nose on it. If it's within reach she uses her nose. If it's up higher or far away she'll use her paws. Now if she was only tall enough to reach the switches. ![]() ![]()
