| Crate Training and Biting Aggression My Yorkie-Poodle is 9 months old and still is not trained to go into his crate himself. The difficult part is getting him in there. Usually if I pick him up and put him in there he will turn around and bit my hand/arm. When he bites it's very hard. I have bled on several occasions and have scars all over my hands. I tried putting a treat in his cage and having his walk in, but he just refuses to go into his crate. I'm not sure what to do and I can't really stand him tearing my body anymore. His aggression is horrible and he will just growl and show his teeth -- if not bite HARD. I don't know what to do. He was just recently neutered 2 weeks ago and I thought he would've gotten better - but he hasn't. I don't want to give him away - but it looks like I just may have to. HELPPPPPP! |

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | are you using the crate as a form of negative reinforcements? If so that maybe the problem. Most dogs love their own secluded space like a crate...but not if they associated with something bad. Can you use a playpen with a crate inside. When you have to secure him maybe you can place him in the playpen and eventually he will like the crate. Just some suggestion

| Not all dogs like crates. Buddy never like his as he got older, around 6mos so I got rid of it. Why make a dog do something they don't like? Keep you dog in a gated room, like the kitchen where's it's bright. Buy a bed and leave that in there with toy's, water and pee pad if he's not completely trained. An unhappy dog won't stop showing aggression if he being made to do something that makes him that way. I believe in crate traing but if at 9mos old he's not trained I would give up and do the above. A happier dog is easier to work with. |

| I agree with the other posters You have to stop the biting immediately ..... because that will only get worse He has some sort of fear of the crate and at this point it doesn't matter why Keep him in a larger pen or a laundry room or something to keep him penned when you need I would also watch him with food and other possession items for now

| I would highly recommend reading one of the books by Cesar Millan, also known as the Dog Whisperer. If the puppy is biting you like that it WILL get worse. I know because I adopted a 1 yr old silky terrier after my 13 yr old yorkie passed away. I treated this puppy like a human baby, with kindness and love, but he started biting my friends and family and was very possesive of whatever he felt was his. Some dogs need to be taught that YOU are their pack leader or they will not respect you and they will bite to keep YOU in line. They need to be handled in a different way then less aggressive dogs. Hope this helps.
