| PLEASE HELP!! Isn't it just me?? Is it me(which I'm sure it is), or is my puppy untrainable? Well 1st off he's 4 months old. But man he chews everything, and seems to be untrainable. He pee's every where in my house. Then when we put him in a gate he barks like crazy! Keep in mind this is mine and my wife's 1st dog. Please help with suggestions? |

| first of all mistake number one... he needs to be in a smaller confined place.. like your kitchen that has a door from it..example only.. have a pp pad down by the door.. but go outside with him often..when you are not home he needs to be in a smaller area again.. with toys pp pad and a bed.. You need extra love, and undevided attention to his needs for at least three months... when u think he is trained.. do not slack off... for he will fall back fast.. You will get father with rewards... an excited happy voice saying good baby good gilr good boy or the name of the dog.. I never panic... and I find in time with good direction it comes to them... I have a 5 month old I have had since birth... pp pads used and she never not goes to them.. like a child.. they are all different... If I put the pp pad outside and leave the door open she will go out there.. I tell her she is a good girl... excited in voice.. consistancy and patiences is worth more then a million other things... anne |

| At 4 months old everything is a toy! Even the potty pad is going to be fun to chew up I remember when Suzi would grab a hold of hers and run away with it ! She was a little stinker ! Noq she is fully trained a uses the pads all the time . I agree with Anne, PAtience and consistency are the most important key factors in potty training.

| At 4-7 months, our Buster was t-r-o-u-b-l-e, trouble. We had all the same problems you're having, and now he's really, really good. There's really not much you can do about the chewing and biting until he stops teething. The only thing you can really do is take away things that he's chewing on but isn't supposed to--that is, put him in an ex-pen if he's chewing on furniture; put your hands in your pocket if he's nipping at your hands; and put the potty pad in a holder like this one (PetEdge: Clean Go Pet Puppy Pad Holder). Replace the no-no items with things he's supposed to chew on. Also, bully sticks are a great distraction for chewers. If he's peeing everywhere in your house, he can't have access to the whole house. If there's one key to potty training a Yorkie, it's to give him space according to his potty training success--keep him in an ex-pen until he has no accidents there, then give him one room until he has no accidents in it, and so on. You're cultivating their instincts not to make a mess in their home by doing this. The barking takes time, but most dogs do it for attention when they're penned up. Don't pay attention to him, and he'll learn that his barking doesn't work. Then he'll eventually stop. We had a stopwatch rule--10 minutes would have to elapse of no barking for him to be let out. Any barking, and the 10 minutes started over again. Don't worry, we all go through this. Good luck! |

| RE: When Lexi was 4 months old all I could think was OMG what have I done? Did I pick the wrong breed? Why did I want a puppy again? The first 9 months are the hardest with potty training and the biting of EVERYTHING. My advice is be patient because in one year this devil pup is going to be your pride & joy. Just like a kid direct his attention on smthng chewable instead of your stuff. As far as training...Yorkies are stubborn but.... They love routines!!! Once he catches on to the potty pad he will keep on using it. That was the easy part for me. It was the getting her to go outside that took a while. Once she understood going outside to potty got her treats then it was sooo on! Gd Luck with your new baby I wish I could fast fwd to her being a year old for ya LOL!

| I have a 4month old yorkie poo and her name is coco. I start training her when i first got her. I use potty pads and news paper. Some reason she likes the newspapers better but any way now she is starting to get it. I put her in a cage where I can see her and she can see me. I taught her when I say go to bed she goes into her cage and stay there. Of course I had to used tricks to get her to understand go to bed. We take long walks outside so she is getting used to going outside instead of the pee pad or newspapers. The bitting is a problem but she is calming down a bit because I brought her all these chew toys so whenever she starts to bite I say no and give her a toy she can chew. Just give your dog the love and support it needs they will soon realized they are safe. This is my first puppy and I must say its really fun to see how she picks up things and how well she listens. Its sometimes nerve wrecking but its also fun at times. |

| Hey guys! New to yorkie talk. I joined because I am having the same problem with a stubborn lil man! He is 7 months old and for the most part he is going outside. I find that if I don't allow him to go into every room with me he punishes me with a little puddle. He also has this thing he does.....I call it pee walking! Not sure what that is about. Anyone else have that problem? |

| When he walks he pees? Thats because he is in a hurry to try to follow you that he doesnt stop to pee. take some time and let him know where to go pee or poo. they can be stubborn but they will soon catch on! |

| Im reading this and truely feel blessed, Laci is 5 months old , she came to me pee pad trained at 12 weeks, very lucky till I got my rugs cleaned, then she had accidents , so I started taking her outside, other then 1 accident she has done amazing, she sits by the front door and barks or hops up and down in front of me if I dont see her by the front door!! I have to say that I am home all day and with her all the time so that has made it easier, on the down side of this , she does not know how to play alone, if I dont lay on the floor or throw something she wont play with her toys at all... |

| First dogs are the toughest ...... and get away with the most because you are not used to what dogs will listen to As was said before ... you need to confine him to onkly the palces that he needs to be The more you let him roam the more accidents that there will be Use the washable pee pads if he shreds the paper The barking .... he is not going to like being put away .... you are taking away his attention You need to make him know that barking will NOT get him what he wants DO NOT let him out or converse with him if he is barking What you do is put him behind the gate When he barks ..... UH! Make sure it is loud enough to make him stop and when he stops GOOD BOY! You will need to do this a lot ... but he will get the message

| What really helped me with the barking was: Whenever he started barking, I went to wherever he was barking, tried to see what he saw and if it was nothing, I just told him, in a soothing voice, that it is nothing. After that he usually calmed down. When there are dogs barking and I can see that Cash is getting ready to bark, I nip it in the bud by saying Uh-uh. He knows that this means no. As soon as he really gets into the barking, it is hard to stop, so I make sure to sense when he is getting excited and wants to bark. Remember that the bark is sometimes necessary and you don't want to eliminate it entirely (not that that is possible). So, go see what he is barking at and when you know that it is nothing, tell him. He is also trying to warn you (this is what dogs do in a pack situation), so if the leader checks it out and decides that it is not a threat, the dog will be satisfied. First dogs are hard, but if you are patient and consistent, taking him to training/puppy classes and keep reading YT, before you know it, you will have a model citizen.
