Frustuated, Stressed, don't know what to do anymore:(

Sooo my lil Toby is 4 months now and still not potty trained I am very patient with him, but I guess I must be doing something wrong that he hasnt learn by now. He has his pad and he pees on it, he also poops on it but thats just sometimes. There's times where he'll poop right next to it and there's times where he'll poop on a totally different area. Me and my boyfriend work and in the morning my bf takes him out, sometimes he'll do his thing sometimes he wont and just do it inside right after a long walk! Then he is put in his area and when I come home around 3pm I feed him and take him outside after 20-30 mins. Sometimes he'll poop and pee sometimes he won't. Then I take him after 2 hours and same thing..or if I get lucky he'll do it. Right when we're not looking at him he'll just do it inside the house. Some people say to take him out every 2 hours, well let me throw that at you-yesterday all day he was at a house with a big backyard and at one point just ran inside and pooped. Then same thing happened but peed twice. So he had all yard and decides to run inside and poop on the carpet?
I also know that they love routines, we have one but it seems that its not working. I see a lot of people on here have my problem so I guess its just the breed. My parents have a miniature pincher his age and she picked up faster than him. I'll be walking Toby for an hour and see my neighbor walk their dog for 5 mins and go back in the house. I am also thinking about taking him to classes..I really want to learn the trick about him but man he is stubborn I also read some ideas from people that I shoud section the house and have him in one place with his pad, then when he poops on there take him outside put the poo on the grass and show him he's supposed to go on there. How is this gonna make him one day just want to go outside?? He'll just do it inside the moment he's let in the house..? PLEASE HELP ME PEOPLE! THANK YOU!

I just don't have an answer for you. The 2 yorkies I had before Abby, were potty trained with no problem and once they were trained there were no messes in the house. Now with Abby it's a different story. I can't get her to stop messing in her crate at night I'm hoping one day she will finally get it.
Tonight she didn't tell me soon enough that she had to go out and she pooped on the floor.
It seemed like it came up on her very quickly and she just couldn't hold it. Sometimes I am at my wits end and then she will have a few good nights, then she regresses
Oh by the way, Abby will be 9 months old tomorrow so she is 5 months older than yours. I have read from many posts here that Yorkies are difficult to potty train. I really didn't know that until I got Abby. She is so totally different than the other 2 I had.

AbbysMom08 is right, some yorkies can be very hard to train. Based on what people say here, I wouldn't expect him to be trained until six months, and maybe not until one year. Thor is almost three years old, but he came to me un-potty trained, and training him was seriously one of the hardest things I've ever done. It took weeks of constant vigilance, and several times he peed right in front of me and I didn't even realize what was happening!

That being said, many dogs do prefer to go indoors, for the same reason people like to - they want comfort and privacy. It sounds like you need to restrict your pup's movement more until he can be trusted. Do you have a crate or an xpen? I did not want to crate train Thor, but I am a 100% convert now. I believe this is the best way to train a difficult dog.

If he goes in the house after a long walk, don't give him that chance - carry him from your front door step to his crate. If he's not sleeping, outside, or in his crate, you must be watching him with BOTH eyes.

I completely sympathise with and you and I feel your frustration! Twinkle is almost a year and still has the odd accident in the house.....I used to repeatedly take her to her pee pads when I thought she needed to go (circling and sniffing etc), or when I caught her in the act, and then eventually moved the pads closer and closer to the door because I wanted her to go outside. Now, for the most part, she'll sit by the door and wait to be let out.....if I'm distracted and don't notice though, she'll do it right there.

Her accidents have become more frequent since having Wicket - I find it harder to catch him 'in the act' because he's so low to the ground that I'm never sure whether he's actually peeing or not! He's also one for having the run of the garden, but then will run into the living room to pee! I'm sure Twinkle thinks, 'If he can do it inside, so can I'

I'm just taking one day at a time and remembering to have lots of patience - I know that if they have an accident it's more my fault than theirs. It is incredibly stressful and frustrating at times, but I hope it helps you to know that you're not alone!

So sad, and yet so true. There were times when I was looking RIGHT AT Thor, and then he'd move and I'd see the wet spot on the rug. Maddening!

Reesie is a little devil about it, too. She'll go pee & poop outside, or wherever she wants. Most times she'll yap at me and then get all excited when I say 'Wanna go potty?' and I'll take her out with Cindy. Other times she finds her favorite spot inside and on the sly.

But it may be something with the Terrier breed. Here's a picture of my old Ginger who was a Terrier of some sort but a wonderful girl. She just loved me for all she had but hated the feel of grass on her feet and peed in the house no matter how we tried to train her. Same with Reesie, there's something about the grass tickling her toes that she hates and that makes the potty training hard.

You are not alone in your frustration.

I have a 4month old yorkie poo. I had got her when she was 2 months. She wasn't potty train or nothing. When I first got her I started to training that same day. Now she pees and poop on the pad but ever since I taught her to ring the bell thats on the door to be let out to go potty she has not pee or poop in the house. I say to myself she is very smart because I taught her other things as well. She picks up things really fast. In time your yorkie will do the same.

It is hard to train some dogs .... and Yorkies sometimes are tuff too
But if you stick to the tried and true it will eventually work for you

What might be making it hard is that you are trying to paper train and house train at the same time
Curtail his movements .... he is to roam only where he needs to be and under your supervision everywhere else

Pee pad a large part of the room he is in when you are away
and as he hits his mark slowly take away more and more of the pads
keep waking him
esp where there are other dogs
eventually esp when the testosterone kicks in he'll Want to leave his mark
outside in pee and poop

I have a crate, dont have an xpen tho.. His playground is the balcony, me and my bf are thinking to gate an area where we can watch him and if we see him about to go, just take him outside..If i put him in his crate for how long should I have him in there? He likes to play all times and I think that will be hard on him..

wow your lucky! I was thinking about the bell too..how is he gonna know to ring it only for when he has to go tho? Do u put ur doggies paw on the bell when you take her outside or how do you do it?

I would use the crate. He might not like it at first, but it should just be for a few weeks. People put their dogs in them for varying lengths of time, but basically, if your dog is awake and you can't watch him like a hawk, he needs to be in the crate. Otherwise, as you are discovering, you will turn your back literally for a second and he will potty indoors. He will never learn that way.

One thing that I found helped a lot was to get Thor a lot of exercise during this period so that when we were indoors, all he wanted to do was sleep on the couch.

Also, depending on how big your place is, you should introduce your dog to it gradually. Let him have a room, and then when he hasn't tried to potty in that for a week, another room, etc, until he identifies the entire place as his territory, and therefore, a bad place to pee.

Yes you're right, he might be confused now for whats happening that I am not letting him do it in the house anymore on his pads. I took them away and now is strickly business for outside pottying I started with the pads because he was little and I never had a yorkie and read that pads are great idea..but now I want him to just do it outside and have to work hard. If he learn how to go on the pads he should learn to go outside...

Mitzi is now 7 months old. I went through EVERYTHING that you are experiencing Do yourself a favor, GOOGLE 'what's the hardest breed of dog to housetrain' and you'll see it's Yorkies. All of a sudden it's like a light went off and she gets it. Please be patient. I strongly believe that Yorkies don't mature as fast as other breeds, and I don't think their little sphincters have much control at an early age. Be consistent with times. If she eats breakfast at 8:00 am, rest assured that by 8:30 - 9:00 she will have to poop. If she makes a mistake, take her over to it and tell her 'no poop here' then walk her outside and show her where to go. I even go as far as to take the soiled paper towel outside and show her the designated spot and tell her 'good girl, go here'. I cannot tell you how frustrating it was the first six months, but please hang in there. Also, walking her is perfect, but remember she's more apt to do her business when you bring her to her spot and let her sniff, not rushing her along for a walk. Offer her the command and stick with the command (e.g.,) I tell Mitzi good piddle and she does so on command. The poop thing took a little longer, but again, I strongly believe their little sphincters don't have control for the first six months or so. I can tell you this, once she is trained you and your boyfriend will LOVE her even more, if possible.
