| Puppy problems She is five months old Okay, here are the issues..... She poops on the carpet, not the pee pee pad. She tears up the pee pee pads. She bites. I can barely touch her face, she's always turning her head trying to bite me? I think that I have tried everything. Do they ever grow out of it? Another thing is that she will bite me and not my boyfriend. When using the water bottle, do you make a noise when you spray or is spraying enough to get the point across? What else can I do to stop her She jumps off of the couch and the bed and yesterday she jumped on the couch! How do I stop/deter her from doing this. Everytime she does I feel as if my heart is going to come out of my chest. I have read horror stories about Yorkies getting hurt /dying because of jumping. Please help!!!!! |

| Oh, I forgot one She also runs when I come near her. Often I have to chase her down. I can't ignore her because she can run somewhere else in the house and get in trouble. |

I'd watch for signs that she has to go (walking around in circles, sniffing, whining, squatting, etc) and take her to her pad. I've read people don't let them off the pads until they've done their business, then praise. As for the nipping and biting, don't pull your hand away from her mouth, she will think you're playing. Instead, remove her mouth from your hand... OR I read that you can get a little tube of Binaca mouthspray and spray just a little bit in front of her nose as she's biting you. If done enough I'm sure she'd associate the unpleasantness of the Binaca with biting you. You could also probably say NO when she does it. Make sure she doesn't see you with the spray in your other hand. You may have to stage a few biting sessions to get your point across. Hiro is 10 months now, and he doesn't nip and bite like he used to... so yes, he DID grow out of it. How big is your pup, and how high is your couch? lol If you don't want your pup on the couch you have to be consistant. It's either on or off. No on the couch *sometimes*. This will be confusing. A dog will be a dog and jump off stuff... If you're worried about her getting hurt, teach her to stay off everything. Do you have a few good puppy training books? Puppies for Dummies is a good one. I've bought it twice! lol There is Yorkshire Terriers for Dummies too! And there is a Housetraining for Dummies as well. You can find all of these off ebay for a HUGE discount rather than buy them full price at a bookstore. Good luck!

Have you taught the 'SIT' command yet? VERY useful! This way, at least you can try to get her to sit when you approach her. I've heard some dogs get a little skiddish when you approach them from above... kinda loom over them. I've been trying to show Hiro that this is ok - he IS little afterall, and it's hard to NOT loom. I try and do this at random when we're standing together, I just loom over him lol and if he doesn't move, I give him a treat. Then I play a little with him, and do it again... and again..... and again. Repetition and consistency is key

| Whenever my 11 week old starts to bite, I put a toy or chewy in front of him instead. You have to be persistent about it. He also started tugging at the potty pad. Just use the stern "NO", pick him up and give him a toy or chewy. Or squeal really sharp, when he tries to bite or tear, this sometimes distracts them enough, and then you can give them the replacement. The biggest thing to remember is keep giving him the right things to bite or tear at. This repetition seems to help with the job. Also they are never too young to start verbal training. Right now, Bra'Tac knows,"sit and stay" commands. He chooses not to use them sometimes, but with a little more training he should have them down soon. Be patient, and best of luck in your training. |

| Sounds like you have a Little Princess on your hands She thinks your a hand maiden instead of her Queen and the biteing of you instead of your boyfriend tends to prove it I'm curious is if she runs away from your BF too or just you Anyway the ripping of pee pads ... get the washable ones The pooping on the carpet ... make sure you clean the carpet well with enzymatic cleaner after each mistake until you can trust her she shouldn't be allowed into carpeted areas The biteing ...is NO! and she goes in her crate DO NOT back down from a puppy like this If she turns her head you hold her head with one hand and wipe her face or wash it or check her teeth with the other allowing a dog to stop you from doing things like that means weakness to them and allows them to ascend the hierarchy scale You want her not to run away from you? Don't run after her She needs to come to you Call her once ... use a treat or something she likes to entice her Do not chse her down
