Have you taught the 'SIT' command yet? VERY useful!
This way, at least you can try to get her to sit when you approach her.
I've heard some dogs get a little skiddish when you approach them from above... kinda loom over them. I've been trying to show Hiro that this is ok - he IS little afterall, and it's hard to NOT loom. I try and do this at random when we're standing together, I just loom over him lol and if he doesn't move, I give him a treat. Then I play a little with him, and do it again... and again..... and again.
