| Home Alone I was just wondering at what age did you let your yorkie have free run of the house when you're not home? I currently gate up Jackamo in a small area with her toys/water/pee pad etc when I leave and she is about 10 months old. Any tips or suggestions would be great. Thanks |

| I think it depends on how much trouble he gets into. So far, SpiceE (7 mos old) has been an escape artist on more than one occasion and he didn't get into anything. I don't know if it was because he had toys available or if he was just out for a short time, but he did good. He isn't really much of a chewer other than his toys, I have been very lucky there. I am sure it really comes down to your babies personality. Hope this helps and good luck!

| Mia is 16 months old and she never has full run of the house. I keep her in the kitchen, family room, hall and bathroom area of the house. All hardwood floors. She will get into trouble in other areas. My teenage sons seem to always leave something sitting around that she will eat. (Left over food or junk) I seriously doubt if she will ever have full run of the house so long as I live with my kids. I am too paranoid that she will eat a dropped something that will hurt her. I keep her in an area that I can monitor. |

| We are transitioning right now from crate to bathroom w/ baby gate. We started Monday and Snick has had 2 accidents so I'm not sure he is even ready for the bathroom. I SO want him to be, he had 2 perfect days and 2 days with accidents. He will not pee on the pad we leave him b/c he is trained to go outside so he pee's on the floor. He pee'd today so my husband is crating him for the afternoon which makes me sad since I HATE his crate (feel it is mean.) Should I even be doing the bathroom yet if he had accidents? Is he not ready or should I stick it out and see if he gets the hang of it? I SO want him to get the hang of it. He looks so pitiful in a cage (ew! I hate the crate so much, he is not a fan either) I doubt I will ever give him full run of the house, it's too hard to find if he pee's or poops somewhere since he is so small. I heard you should give him space over time. Like since he has been in his pen, now give him his pen plus some more space like a hallway or something connected. Wait until he is accident free for 2 weeks then increase space and so on. This was told to me by a trainer and makes sense to me. Good luck...I need it too!!

| Run of the House? We get into enough trouble where we are right now thank you My two guys are on a constant search and destroy mission So far they have managed to take a part and eat their doggy bed and anything else they can reach with their teeth and claws Until they are old enough and trained enough no dog needs or should have the run of the house

| Stuck in the kitchen Teddi is ~6.5 months old and we leave him in the kitchen/morning room area. He's been pretty good about not peeing/pooing in the house but he still tends to chew on wires so we're very reluctant to give him rein of the rest of the floor (includes living room with entertainment system and wires). We bought those plastic covers that hide a lot of the wires but not all. So until he "proves" himself able to resist those yummy wires, he'll be stuck in the kitchen area for now.

| My girls have free run of the whole house as long as someone is home. My girls have the whole first floor and upstairs hallway(bedroom doors are closed) when we are not. They are pretty much trained. I still have a couple of potty pads down for the younger ones that are not fully trained yet and food & water, of course beds & toys everywhere so they have plenty room and things to keep them busy. I think you will know when you can loosen up the reins a little. Make it gradual. I've never been a crate fan...when I had 1, I baby gated her in the kitchen area with pads, bed, toys & food/water, and that worked well for me. I think you're doing fine with gating in a small area for now..once you feel he is trained enough, you can try to see how he does one day to see if he's ready for more room. Good Luck

| Looking at the kind of trouble everyone is going thru in order to potty and house train their new comers. I am so grateful and feel lucky to have my Veer. I place wee wee pad in corner of our kitchen ( little far from where he eats ), there is one in our spare bathroom floor upstairs. ( so far only used by Veer ). There is a door stopper so the bathroom door stays open. His routine is so simple. He sleeps with us in our bed , when I wake up at 6am I place a news paper in the bathtub (in Veers bathroom ) and he pees and poops, wipe him and take him down stairs for breakfast. When ever he is downstairs and if he needs to pee he just goes to his wee wee pad in the kitchen. ( thank god so far no accidence ). If he is upstairs he goes to his bathroom and uses his wee wee pad placed on the floor. Before his night bed time. I do the same place a news paper on the tub and let him pee and poop . He poops before bedtime if he didn't do it right after his 6pm meal. When ever I leave him home alone, he seems to just go upstairs and sleep on his bed or play in foyer. If I am going to be away more than 3 hours I place his water bowl upstairs. I never put him in a crate. He roams free all the time. Now training him to get down the stairs by himself ( he knows to go up ). He seems to be scared of height. You will never catch him trying to jump down anything, but loves jumping up. | My boys are 3.5 years old and still do not have full run of the house when Im at work. Sometimes if I run to the store for 10 mins I won't put them in the gated kitchen but even then, the doors to the bedrooms and bathrooms are closed. I just a) don't trust them and b) feel more secure knowing they are safely in a place in my house meant for them that they cannot get hurt in while I am out or at work for hours.

| Veer is going to be 4 months old on March 9th. I do leave all doors close except the bathroom which he uses, that door stays open all the time ( I placed a door stopper ) Worried the door might close when he is inside and he might be claustrophobic like me |

| Thanks for all the replies. I'll probably leave her gated up when I leave till she's much older, she sleeps the whole time anyways so I guess its not a big deal. Was just curious of what everyone else did. Thanks again |
