| ![]() We've had Reese for almost a week now. Her first night we put her in the crate and she never made a PEEP. Night #2 was a different story. She cried, whimpered, kept us up all night. I read a few books about crate training and did their advice. 1- Put something that has MY scent on it in her crate (a blanket of mine). 2- Gave her a toy 3- Fed her a treat while she was in the crate And she still cried for hours. We've even moved the crate into OUR bedroom so she knows our scent is THERE, and last night she still cried for a solid hour or 2. We finally tried to see if she had to potty, took her out and all she wanted to do was play. Well, at 1am that's NOT happening. So we put her back, she cried. ANd today I'm sleep deprived. ![]() I really don't want to go through another sleepless night. My 3 year old son can't sleep. I can't. The husband cant. But i'm NOT giving in and letting her have her way (sleeping WITH me). What else can I do? I feel like a failure after a mere 5 nights! ![]()

| ![]() Hmm, perhaps she is sleeping too much during the day? Just like babies I think yorkies get their night, day mixed up. I used to play a good game of fetch with Jazzie in the evening, gave her a kong to keep her awake and active, those were a few things that helped me. It sounds like you are doing all the right things. Keep at it, it will get better with consistency. Lots of luck. ![]()

| ![]() Don't give up. I wouldn't suggest letting the puppy sleep with you just yet. Sleeping in bed should be an earned privilege. I waited it out with my puppy. It seems that you are doing all the right things. |

| ![]() As another poster mentioned, its important to be sure they are on the right schedule. As with babies, you need to play with them, feed em', make sure they've pottied, play with them again, then put em' to sleep. During the day while your gone, thats all they do really is sleep. So when you get home, you should make sure your playing with her and keeping her very active until its time to go to bed. Its also good to have a cut-off time for treats/eating so she wont be using the bathroom all during the night. Not sure what kind of crate you have, but I believe its best to have a small crate (one that she can only stand up and turn around in). They are den-like creatures, so having the larger crate doesnt seem to work when trying to crate train. Also, depending on how old she is, she might be crying to use the bathroom. At a young age, they arent able to hold they're bladders all night. So maybe confining her to an xpen with her bed and some peepads might help. Hope you get the answers your looking for ![]()

| ![]() There WILL be sleep-deprived nights, and many many times where you will be waking up regularly in the middle of the night to take her out, so just go ahead and count on not getting a nice uninterrupted night of sleep for awhile. I know it sucks :-( But it won't last forever. My boy could only hold it at night for about 4-6 hours until just a few nights ago (at 4.5 months old). About three nights ago was my very first uninterrupted 8 hours of sweet sweet wonderful sleep in a month and a half of owning Nikko!!! The best thing you can do IMO to keep her from whining in her crate when it's bedtime is exercise like crazy for the whole hour or two right before bedtime. If she's exhausted, she's less likely to cry and more likely to just pass out into doggie dreamland when it's bedtime. Good luck... I know it's not easy, but they're worth it. :-) Buy some earplugs for the family maybe! But whoever's in charge of letting the dog out in the middle of the night is just out of luck - you've gotta be able to hear if she needs to pee. Lauren & Nikko |

| ![]() She has dinner and water at 6pm, we crate her from 7-9pm. Then let her come out for water and to play from 9-11. We take her potty at 11pm then she goes to the crate. During the day she doesn't cry as much as she does at night. Last night it was about a 20 minute cry. It's hard to ignore with the way my house is whatever room I put her in, I'm never far from her! She's 11 weeks (someone asked). Last night was OK. She seems to hold it from 11p-5:30a. She doesn't nap alot during the day! Maybe twice. And it's just cat-napping because I run an in-home daycare. So she's always being played with and has lots of energy going around her. I'm just lost. Our last dog crate trained the first 2 nights, so after a week I'm feeling discouraged. Thanks for all the support! I'm NOT giving into her. SHe'd destroy my home all night if I let her roam (she's about to begin teething, LOL). ![]()
