| Need ADVICE herre .... Hey everyone, I have my Murphy who is a 4 lb loveable little guy, which will be 1yr old this March 14. Murphy enjoys his days in a 8 foot exercise pen while I am at work, as I work 3 days a week 10 hours, but my husband gets home alot earlier then me. Murphy has his comforts in there as well....water...dry food, his bed and his sofa with toys, so he can play. Plus his Pee-PAD! As he is Pad trained I let him have a run of the house abit while I am home. I want to start letting Murphy stay out of that exercise pen at times when I am not home. He will have run of 3 rooms (living room, dining room, kitchen) its an open plan home. My question is How old should he be before I can let him alone while I am away? Should he never be let out of that pen while I am away>? Is it a SAFER thing to just put him in the pen when I am not at home as I am doing now? I cant say he would not get into anything, as he doesnt while I am home, I try to keep plugs covered and things out of his reach. Please let me have your advice and suggestions. He loves to sit on the back (top) of my sofa and look outside at the birds and he falls asleep therre alot. He loves watching outside. Thanks Kat

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I think once you yorkie proof and he does the potty thing in the right spot then it's fine to let him run free. I used to do that with Lulu. Looking forward to getting Zoey all trained and doing the same then too.

| Keep those Replies Comming!!!! PLEASSSSEEEE Well he is potty trained to a point. He still as accidents now and then, but only near the front door, so I put a pee pad there as well as the dining room. I just hate to keep him locked up but in another way, I dont want to put his safety at risk. I would never forgive myself if soemthing happen to him, because I was careless. thanks Kat

| Hi Kat....I have a Murfee. I would leave him out if he is mostly trained and you wouldn't mind if he has an accident. Murfee has never been penned or crated. When he was itty bitty I would leave him locked in the kitchen but he has pretty much had the run of the house since about 6 months. Murfee also loves to sit on the back of the couch and "protect" us from boogers

| Hi patty58 I think your Murfee is adoreable!! I feel bad for my baby being locked up in the pen while I am at work, however I dont want him to get into any trouble or harm. I have a 8 foot exercise pen for him while takes up alot of space in the Dining Room, but I dont care ) He loves to lay on the back of the sofa and watch out the window, when I sit I on the sofa I usually lay back and he jumps up and lays near me, with his little bottom resting on my shoulder. I just wonder if he would get into anything if I was not home, trying to Yorkieproof the best I can, but I think sometimes he outsmarts me! Take care, and if you have any suggestions, just keep them comming.... Kat )

| Have you tried leaving him out for an hour or so as a little test? I would try that and if he does ok, leave him a little longer. I think he will be ok.

| We started by leaving our babies out for short periods, while we went to the store and such and gradually increased our time away from them. Rosie and Jack now have free run of the house all day and night , even if we are not home, but we only allow Gracie the run of one room which we have puppy proofed, if we can't be home with her. Jack is a little over a year old, Rosie is 2 years old and Gracie will be a year old next month.
